I'm posting my intention to enter before I come to my senses and chicken out. For me this challenge is the toughest yet.
Well here goes, gulp.

Right I've always wanted to be Conan so I think I'll go for that, he usally rides a horse but I fancy a dinosaur, hey it's my fantasy.
So now all I have to do is make a characature of myself! Anyone got any links on how to do this?

Clanger

Oh no, I weeks gone by and I haven't done anything! Better get going.
At least I don't have to work on my head, I already look like a toon.

It's starting to look less and less like me, this is hard.

And how am I going to do thining hair without textures?

Nice way of aproaching to get your head look cartoonish.
About the hear>>You can make stings or just moddel a mass and give it a collor and then add a bump map.

P.S.
I almost would say that your avatar would be a great Toon to represent you..

Iguiniz.X I'll give that a go thanks, as for the clanger avatar I quite liked the Clangers but in all honesty it was just the first thing that popped into my head when I was put on the spot while registering.

Virtuoso: Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'll try and live up to it.

Update:
Finally started modelling, I thought this a good project to try Wiro's box modeling tutorial on, so far I like it.

KoRn_ART: I have done a few heads, never totally finished one mind, this is the first time I've used a box modeling technique though.

Well It's looking like you have a handle on box modeling already. Looking very good and clean. Great way to start out by warping your picture :scream:

Ingram: I've taken an instant liking to box modeling heads thanks largely to Wiro's tutorial. Bending things in Photoshop seemed a lot easier than trying to do it properly, not as good results I'm sure but it'll do.

should have some time tonight so update later.

oh Box modelling is really hard ... can't do this :surprised:

The latest update an your concept picture reminds me on ... hehe please dont punch me .... Mr. Bean ;)

KoRn_ART: I keep going on about it but Wiro's tutorial took the pain out of learning box modeling , I'd recommend giving it a go no matter what your app. is.
Yes I can see a bit of Mr. Bean there as well, hopefully now I've strenghtened the jaw line it's not so noticeable, I am finding making it look like me extremely difficult.

DimitrisLiatsos: Yeah, my best feature. Big is beautiful.

I've ear marked tonight some more modeling time but this weekend I bought a book on art by Biz and went to an Alice Cooper concert so I can't be held responsible if it starts evolving in to something very strange.

Clanger

Balazs : I think my No. 1 plan is a hat. I'm lost without texture maps.

hey clanger!

-like your model... i think if you made the contour around the eyes a bit stronger, it would be more you because, from the pictures it looks like your eyes is placed a bit further into the head:-)

nice going and keep up the good work...

Clanger

abyss103: I'll try and fix it if I've time, starting to panic now with the lack of time left.

Quick, blocking in the body render.

Virtuoso : Thanks for the encouragement.

abyss103: I'm a little further on than the last post, I've an horrible DTP job to finish off at the moment, if I glue myself to the screen and not get up I could have a few hours tonight where I hope to finish the body.

I hate DTP :thumbsdow

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Never quite got the final render out but it's the closest yet.
As a high priority I really must learn how to rig and skin a character, I keep trying but run out of time, panic then just manualy pose it!

once you create the head, do you extrude the rest of the body from the head ? or do you add another box and model the body out of it, then connect the two??? where is the wiro tutorial? also what software do you use?
thax

Clanger
12-20-2002, 05:19 PM
sebek27:
In this case I did just extrude the body out of the neck but there was no good reason why I did this, creating the body separately and attaching later would have worked just as well.
I use Max but box modeling seems to be good in all packages.

sebek27:
What am I talking about? This model I did create the body separate and attached the head later, must have been thinking about another model!
As I said I don't think it makes much differance.
