The face pretty made everything not "feel" good with it's expresion. Though that's just my opinion. If those eyes where off. Then the movents was a hell of fun , good job  . It'd be great if you animated the eyes to , so you could make this be more "expressing" :).

the part where hes in shock is a bit weak, an his arm arent conveying anything, the jump needs more pop or an spring.

first gesture, aniticipating into his dusting off his hands, looks wierd.
'Dustin' his hands off' motion is a little robotic. Too linear, no secondary motion on his wrists or fingers. His pose is wierd too, looks like he's leaning forward, or off to the side or something.
the hold on his double take is a little too static. use a 'moving' hold.
the jump is wierd. I'm not sure what to say about it...
He jumps so high, and then immediately recovers to do...whatever that last gesture is. How about giving him some time to recover.
Can you tell us more about your clip, why is he dusting his hands off? what did he just get done doing? What is it that scares him? Relieveing us of assumptions will help us to critique.

Hi.

I agree with Adam's specific points. Some of the poses don't make sense. If you haven't already done so: ACT the thing out. Film yourself doing it and watch it. Check out the poses you make and use those poses as a place to start.

Everything should be in there for a reason. Why is he brushing his hands? Has he just finished doing something? Mabye we need to see a bit of that action and then his reaction to (a spider?.... or something) will have a bigger punch.

Adding something for him to react to might help with the timing and storytelling.

here's a short interesting article:

I hope that helps.

I'm also trying to animate that model/rig.
it can't have any real face expression  .

In other words, my first post on the thread sucked. : p.

That animted rig/model was/is extremly nice.

as mentioned above,3 seconds in he pauses statically.Definitely a noticable moving hold is required. Also, for this kind of cartoon animation you should add alot more anticipation/exaggeration.

Quite nice animation, anticipation seems fine, plus for a surprised action anticipation isnt really an issue maybe only one or two frames. good work

At the time he jumps most of his weight is on his left foot. He is slightly leaning forward, and then suddenly he's 4 foot in the air.

He bends his knees, but he also bends over with his head pointing at the ground.

Then his body raises into the air but not by the force of the legs. He just starts raising.

At the top of the jump he opens up his arms and legs.

This all doesn't look natural.

When some one is surprised the jump should come from their calfs. The hands should move towards the face to protect it, and the elbow tightens into the body to protect the chest area. The head and face should lean backwards away from the source of danager.

I guess my problem is that your character leans forward towards the danager in order to jump, and then springs open his arms and legs. It's more of an excited happy jump then a surprised scared jump.

It's good!. nice and expressive, i'm a little confused as to what is going on but it's nice and cartoony looking. If you want some good reference for more realistic stuff www.pom.tv (http://www.pom.tv) has some wicked reference material for animators, it's good for animators in the industry but i've also found it useful as more of an instructional tool. I can see the reference over and over and study the movement and mechanics and all that. it's good! Check it out. ++Tamara Foxx++
