what i mean is..
in a 2 colored gradient can i have one solid color and other transparent?
i hope i have been able to explain my question properly!

if you hit shift+f10 youll get the trasparency options + blending options hope that helps

Ok i'll try to explainn again...
Suppose i need a 2 color linear gradient with one end white (255,255,255, Opacity 100%) and the other end with same white but at a lower opaccity (255,255,255, Opacity 0%).
this is possible in Photoshop, but I cant figure out how to apply the same in Illustrator.

Look up Opacity Masks in the Illustrator help doc. It will tell you what you want to know.

Sorry, I thought you were just asking if it were possible... assumed you would check the inbuilt help about transparency / opacity.
