View Full Version : The Dark Lady - fantacy character (nudity)
overcontrast 08-30-2005, 12:43 AM Hey guys, It's been so long I haven’t posted anything on this forum so thought I’ll get back to my old habit and do some poly pushing.
Sooo, I've been working on this model for a while now. This time I hope I’m gonna finish it. She is supposed to be a warrior kinda lady. I almost finished the base model and will add the props/weapons/armors as I go along. Here is the first glimpse of the model. Comments and critiques are very welcome.

I'm waiting with awe.

This is totally subjective, but the upper part of her body looks young, but then her lower body lacks the youthful curves - she looks sort of too skinny and too lacking in firmness in the legs to me. That's making her look like she's about 60 from the thighs down.
I really like the upper part - especially the face, and would (personally) like the model more if her legs were shapelier.

BMunchausen: thanx for the crit mate... i'll look into it... the legs will get more shaped while i model the armors and all... but just to let every1 know, i'm more interested in making this a natural looking human rather thena supermodel look... but lets c whare it goes... thanx a load again

Except for some minor parts of the leg anatomy and something about the mouth, I really like this model. Overall, she is really quite nice. Nice footwear, too.

I gotcha - I'm more for naturalism myself - I didn't mean you should make her a supermodel. We have enough of those already being modeled in 3D. I love those shoes! Those are awesome!

Lovely work so far. I really like the proportions of the figure. Crazy detail you got going there as well.

08-30-2005, 09:01 PM
Looking good. I agree that her head looks abit younger than the body, but let's see what you do with textures and hair. The proportions are good.
If you ever want to animate her you'll want to fix her facial layout. The lines don't follow the nasolabial fold, and this way she'll never be able to convicingly smile, sneer etc.

08-30-2005, 09:24 PM
hey thanx ppl... yeah i myself spotted these problems on the face topology.. theres huge problems there... well the story is i modeled the head b4 i did any studies on facial topology so excuse me there... man o man i'm lazy to fix it... well lets c i'll fix it sometym.... thanx again guys

Coming along very well...great job. My one suggestion is for the buckles around the ankles, and to shift them a little bit to add a little randomization so they're not perfectly in line.

Zero Signal: thanx man... done.. the buckles r randomized...
okiz, well nothing much but here is a little update...

wow the armor is looking really nice  I would check your topology for the face though the laugh line doesnt seem to be flowing right, other than that great job waiting to see more.

Thanx Andrew... well now the facial topology is fixed so she can smile with all her glory.
Okay now time for another little update. I have reduced the size of the head by a tiny bit so she would look a bit bigger. I'm Pretty much done with the right arm. Now I’ll go an do the left arm. This is because with her left arm she will control her sword and with her right she'll block. I'll keep the armors light on the left arm cause that hand will be needing all the flexibility while fighting.
The armors on the arm are eventually will be zBrushed to hold some cultural designs which represents woods/forests. Cause she is the gardien of a forest.
Some comments would be nice...

Great work, if you would like some more critiques, i think that there is a small pinching issue in her bicep, and the thumb area on her hand looks a little flat, could just be the lighting though, btw i loved your MS entry, really kick ass.

mrtrashtalk: well yeah i already did the hair, i made some planes for the hair that i'll later texture paint to make it look like real hair.... i added the hood to stay true to the original design.... the final render will have more hair comming out from the front.
lets c how it all turns out....

Hey hey, she looks really kick ass dude. especially with the armour and accessories. I wonder how you are going to weight the armour to act like real armour when you decide to animate this wonderful character? At first I mistook her for a gladiator or a rogue because of the slippers.
Please keep on going with this project, I can't wait to see it done. And is a great departure from the supermodel style characters...great job dude. Five stars from me.

Five stars from me, keep those images coming!
Question: Which software are you using to make that model?
overcontrast
11-22-2005, 08:52 AM
HaloAnimator: thanx mate... i dont really intend to animate this model, but i'll try to practice some rogging on this and mayb also end up animating her for practice runs, i'm not much of a gr8 animator.... but i'm gonna turn this into a full rendered image for sure... thanx for droppin by again.
reedomatic: thanx mate, its not the final pose, but thanx for ur imput. Although the final pose will have some resemblence to this one.
Phil "Osirus": point taken bor. ur right i need to be careful with the textureing, dont want all these detail to desapire.
eosmusashi: thanx a lot for ur vote mate. glad your liking my work.... Right now i'm using 3DSMAX 7.0 for all the 3d modeling and stuff, and standard scanline renderer for the rendering.... i'm the final one, i guess i'll be using mental ray.

Definantly some awesome work friend. I'm waiting to see the textured version and what little details you manage to pull off with that.
Did you do the hood with a cloth sim? If so I'm just curious about which one.

kyphur: hey hows it oin... thanx for droppin by and i'm glad u liked it. For the hood, no i didnt used any cloth simulator for it. I modeled it and used skinning to rig it with bones so it keeps its shape.
kyphur
11-22-2005, 05:08 PM
Is that how you're going to do it in the final? I know that you said that you weren't really planning on animating her but still. Mainly just curious.
How good are you at rigging?
Kyph
overcontrast
11-22-2005, 07:30 PM
kyphur: well i'm not the best rigger out there, but i can do a decent rig to pose a model i guess....
well i've been unwrapping the UVs for the body... might need bit more tweak... but heres how i do it...

That's cool... reminds of the way some people layout their UV's...
Like NickZ's tortosaur (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=29374&page=4&pp=20) over on the zbrush forums. It's on the third page (the link should take you to the third page :D) about halfway down.
You said you're using max 7 eh? Too bad, the pelt mapper is a great, GREAT tool in Max 8. If you get the chance you can download the trial version (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5972446) and mess around with it.
What kind of time frame are you looking at to have her finished in? Just curious, don't feel pressured that you answering that gives you a personal commitment. Like I said, I'm just curious. :)

good work...keep it going buddy...
my only comment wud be, dont u think acc to her armour on hands and legs, her body is lil too exposed??? maybe give her chest and legs armour matching up with other...just a thought...

Go here (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=5903856), it's the second link down, download it and watch. It's a new way to UVW map objects/chars/whatever. It's mucho badass and makes UVW unwrapping time a lot, LOT less.

Why did u stop posting???? cmon man....finish it!!
hello there! nice to see a desi in here :bounce: im originaly from BD too :D
anyways, this is very good modeling so far
i have one crit for now, the upper head proportion seems to be little off
for example:
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7651/zubuyer9th.jpg
the red height is almost same as the blue height, normaly the forehead height is 1/3 of the total head height.
however, great work so far
