Have you tried creating displacement maps?
or using bump maps?
Sometimes this is better for creating detail than actually trying to model it in.

What are you trying to add detail to? You could try using magic bevel or bevel. Also check out extrude and smooth shift.

blaqdeaph,i used smoothshift for most.im modeling a male figure, but im going to use fine details to make it alienish,i used the normal modeling tools for most, used bandsaw and drag, etc for a six pack look,im going to put a pic up,circle on the right is where i want to put the serratus muscles, but i would need to add alot of segments, but when i do the lines bunch up and put creases, also the circle on the left i want to show muscle definition to the chest, the other shows in smooth shade the result of bandsaws,in another instance thatmight be cool, thoughbonzodogboy,i never thought of displacement or bump maps, this is actually my third model,so im still new,is there any good tuts on this feature ...i thank you and appreciate the replys as always

You might want to check out the Divide Tool, look at this tutorial:

If you're wanting to do the chest, just use smooth shift to create the pecs.

smoothshift, spinquad, stretch, move, drag, weld, merge, rotate, smooth shift, spinquad.

It is a small sentence called million-click art.
