Hey there,

this is my first post in the 2D category and not the last I hope.
I had a little free time and because of the fact, IŽll have no vacation in the next time, I brought some surferŽs romantic to my computer.

This is the classic 1 on 1 situation, someone faces the ocean.

I worked on it for half an hour. The sketch b/w sketch took a minute for me to do.

At the moment IŽm not so happy about the colours, and the waves could be larger.

Details, especially skin shading, water, beach and sky! will be added soon.

Nice work. As far as colors, it depends what time of day, what the sky is like and what beach he is on. Maybe find a reference that you like of a beach to get some ideas. Keep going you have a good start.

Hm, the daytime I thought about, was afternoon.
More a rainy scene then a romantic sunrise or sunset.

The figure looks like he is bathed in morning or evening sun because of the yellows and golds in the skin tone so I would say desaturate the skin tones or clear out most of the clouds and have morning or evening sky and this of course would change the color of the sea. Go with the painting you want to make. Being consistant with the lighting is difficult for me too. I liked the breaker in the first posting better than the latest. Keep going, you will know when you are on the right track.

Well I think, Im not going to paint such a dark grey sky.
Matching the colour palette at the end should be hard enough and I donŽt want to desaturate the painting.

I just made a quick sky at my office with less clouds and more friendly colours.

before and after

the lower image has the new sky, adjusted some levels on it and on the figure, too. Gave a bit more contrast to the shore an darkened the sand.

I love it! Really nice concept. Well the lightning is cool as well, maybe some more light need on his shorts (just like on his arms and etc.) and maybe the head is needs to be a little bitter bigger i think but correct me if its not.
The colors are nice, it has a nice atmosphere!

thanks,

at the moment Im not taking care of the figure in the foreground, because Im looking for the right colour scheme of sky and ocean.
The contrast ist a bit too low. The sky fades into the ocean and you canŽt really see the horizon.

IŽll try to fix this
