ok..the age old problem..what is the way to get the best result to digitize footage from dv/miniDV cams?...i used firewire, the compression is awefull. is there anyway to directly download it from camera to computer, bypassing the compression of miniDV and firewire? or is there any better option than firewire to capture?.....please note that i am not talking about fixing the edges of green screen footage in post production. i did those all. i am concerned about the better way to capture it with less or no compression.
any suggestion?

thanks

I'm afraid there is no better way. The (4:2:0 or 4:1:1) compression actually happens when recording to tape, not when sending out the video-signal via Firewire and is a essential part of the (mini)DV format. the only way to get a signal befor compressing is to grab it before it is compressed and recorded but this step requires specific hardware.

yea..as i mentioned, i am looking for the hardware that can capture directly from camera to computer. can anybody tell me what is it..and how much it may cost?
thanks

I read an artical in a magazine about a guy who bypassed the compression on his dvx100a and it goes straight to a harddrive with almost HD resolution. I cant remember the guy or the magazine though sorry :( It is at work and I can hunt it down if you really need me to.
