Killer work! I do agree on the veins though. You sure shouldn't have any trouble finding a job if you don't have one already. Most likely you do :)

amazing modeling man, Why don't you put your woman modeling in you reel ?? she's one of my prefered models cause of her original proportion !
So very great job, your zbrush touch looks perfect .

Hey Alex. Lovely work. Been looking at you posts at ZBrushCentral. Wonderful stuff.

My only crit is the video compression. It's a tad bit rough, leaving quite a few artifacts. But none the less you said you might change some stuff, and it still shows off your wonderful work very well.

Otherwise Beautiful work

You use to work at Eurocom right? I think you left just after I started there. How are things at your new work?

Amazing work here ! For sure a great use of Zbrush !
Just one question: What kind of Hardware do U have ? My computer is not able to create a displacement map with such a resolution ! Can't have a mesh more than 2,000,000 of poly in Zbrush to give such details... What is your secret ?

Sorry, but I can NOT UNDERSTAND - why 2.30 sec I see some models in different anathomy, but single style of modelling. It's moreover see some pictures on your site.
Last 10 second more and more interest. But you can render some camera rotation, not a pan on 2D still.
Some year's ago, after a big work, this reel will be a hour or two. Why?

hi!
Thanks for the replies, i´m glad u guys like it. About the workflow and render, i use 3dmax for the modelling, usually creating a basic shape that i export to zbrush where i do all the sculpting...i see a lot of people using zbrush just to add the smallest of the details, when the real power of it is to sculpt the model from the very begining, not just add bumps and details.
After i finish with that, i export back the mesh AND the displace mapping into max, and i use Vray with it´s vray displace modifier to give all the detail to the mesh at the render time. I didn´t use any bump map in here, just displace...
Some people asked me about the song...the truth is that i don´t know the artist...i will look for that, i just find it in my collection and i liked and used it for the reel...sorry i can´t help with that... :(
Thanks for the comments!

Vray seems to render the displacement pretty well. I think I will have some heavy brainstorming and more rendertime to have such result with MR...

metamesh
08-26-2005, 07:37 PM
gpepper with mental ray for max i never managed to get the same result as with vray, it´s really pity cos in mental ray the sss shader is wonderful, anyway it always crashed max when i used mental ray displace with high values...so... Vray forever! :D

Yes, this is my problem in Maya... The only renderengine which gives me nice displacement is Turtle...
Maybe I should try again with MR...
I found it amazing that U can Have such details with only 1,000,000 or 1,500,000 in Zbrush. I tried to have that kind of detail on a character but didn't manage to get it so well... All those cool wrinkles !

Show these static models spinning in a reel and then make it suddenly spring to life and jump at the camera and holler and spit and... well, you get the picture! You know, for pure shock value.

I have this song on vinyl with the whole album....

Artist: Bent

Finally, a modeling reel that truly deserves front page. I love your attention to details, and your careful and discrete execution of them on your models. All of which, are anatomically correct and displayed highly proffesionally. The flow of the reel is mesmerizing and the music definitely hooks and keeps the viewer tuned to an already eye-catching display of great characters. Where did you render these turnarounds and did you use any final gathering or hdri on any of them, including the textured sets you show in the end? Can you give us an insight to how you rendered your reel.

What can i say, this reel is fantastic and if i were an employer i would hire you instantly. :deal::thumbsup:

First of all: Fantastic work! The anatomy and the details are just incredibble!

If got a question: Could you please show us some screenshots of how the basic models in MAX looking BEFORE you exported it to ZBrush? Cause i really want to know what was done in MAX and what you call "basic" and what was done with ZBrush.
Cause i`m thinking about buying ZBrush, but i need so more Information. Could you please show a screenshot of one of these models (T-Rex would be cool) in MAX before export to zbrush?
And: I don`t work with MAX at the moment... i use Cinema 4D. Have you any information about whether ZBrush works good with Cinema4D and the Cinema4D render?
Thanks a lot!

That's some brilliant and inspiring work, Alex.

I'll mention something about the reel itself. It just sorta jumped into the Rhinoman clips, which went for over 30 seconds (I think Hugman came in at around 37): I found myself wondering "is this a modeling reel or a rhinoman reel?" I think it might help to put something at the beginning to give some hint that it's about more than one piece; maybe a quick montage of what we're going to see? Might also add a little contrast to the otherwise slow pace of the rest of the reel...

Anyway, great job and congrats on a well-deserved front page spot. :)

Best,
Andrew

metamesh I have another question

Did you use multi displacement map (one disp map for the arm,one for the face, one for torso,...) or one displacement map for all the body ??And if it's yes is it a multi-subobject in 3dsmax?

thanks a lot for your answer

sorry for my english

Awsome modeling there brotha!! I really dig the light set up you have there, any tips or screens you can give about the lights used/shadow types/colors/intesities? It almost looks like I am staring at a sculpture on an actual stand cause the lighting feels so natural or "real" looking. Any hoot...great job man!!

Heyyy tuuuu! :buttrock:
.I knew you were going to be in the front page man! Yours is the best modeling reel I've seen so far!
.I like the funny names that you choose for your models. Mi favorite is Uncle Pumpkin, I didn't knew you had that model. (ese laptop de moda!)
... next time put any of the models with textures and you'll be the king! ... and I'm open to animate the rino if you give me a second chance! .... he rules! :bounce: :bounce:
... and sorry about the Trex... I didn't like using cat very much!

Top notch !

You've got a nice balance of 3D and Zbrush detailing, with some awesome detail on legs of the dino. Although i do have to agree with the comment about the harshness of the veins in the neck area.

Great stuff man, keep it up

Herber was talking about this reel creating some insperation... well, it did. Now I go model, hehe. Just freakin amazing Alex. I actually cought myself staring into coousin's eyes and actually started to believe them to be real. Funny thing about that is you have no textures on those models, oh and the cathedral... what patience. Bravo!

Hey Alex!
The page looks good, well done!
I guess a lot of people (me inclusive :-)) are still waiting for your zbrush video tutorial...
Do you still work on that? or is it dead? Would be sad... be maybe you don^t have enough time. I would understand that.
But IF you are still working on it (maybe its already findished), please let us know.
Thanks, all the best, Oliver

That is amazing work. Your skill and knowlege of autonomy is wonderful, the wrinkles replicate real weight of the skin, and you can feel the bone structure underneath. Absolutly wonderful.

On your reel: Might want to light your models differently. Your texture is fine, but the lighting is somewhat distracting.

Also maybe animate some of your models. Nothing fancy since this is a modeling reel- but just enough to see how your models move and deform.

Great Job- I'm envious :).
