HI!
Does anybody know how can I amke two cpu work to redner AE. I have dual 3.2 CPUs but when I render my perfomance cpu indicator doesn't go higher then 50 %.
How do I enable 100% of my dual CPUs?
Thank you!

Im pretty sure that AE cant recognize the 2 proc..

I'm hoping it does support multiple processors on PC ... found the article below through google

what version are you running? I'm reading a lot about 6.5 supporting multi processors and threading

if you're mac based - check http://www.digitalproducer.com/2003/04_apr/tutorials/04_07/aerender030408.htm

Forgive me, but that's BS. AE will use 2 processors on systems that support them. The problem is, that the entire AE pipeline is written as such that plugins have to explicitly be told to use two procs. As you may guess, most of them at the moment don't, especially third-party ones. There isn't really much you can do about that except for the workaround described in the article if you follow the link provided in the other post. It's not really helpful ,though, since it will also cut down available RAM which will make it impossible to render certain projects.

does anyone know when a 64 bit version will be released?

Maybe anyone here has any experience with GridIron? It's supposed to be multiprocessor plugin for AfterFX 6.5. If anyone can give us more details about it?

I suppose once they release v7, they will also provide a 64 bit version. This is a bit ambiguous though, since it means quite a workload and if you look e.g. at the 64 bit versions of 3D programs you will have to live with some not so minor limitations.

I did some tests with GridIron's X-Factor (http://www.gridironxfactor.com/index_home.asp) plugin some time ago, and it worked very well, and speeded up the interface by doing RAM-previews as a background task. But it needed too much IT/network-management to setup and keep it up for my taste, so I ditched it. Hope to get DigitalFusion type of background render -toggle button there someday. Then I might reconsider...

But that's just me.

We put up a pretty big gridiron network at my old work, and that gave the ability to use both procs on multi processor PCs. But unfortuently not on the one you have as render controller, or to be more exact you can use both, but not to render at the same time. One is for working and one for rendering.
However if you descide to use another PC as the render controller you can take advantage of both cpu´s on the dual PC at the same time while rendering.

All this goes for the paying version (workstation or 6-node version) of grid iron since the free one doesen´t allow render ques just previews.

Another nice thing is that it works well with a mixed pc/mac environment, at least if you got DAVE on th macs.
