View Full Version : backhround image
chrleon 11-04-2002, 09:47 AM Hi folks.
Is there a way to use a bg image in the perspective view.
Very practical to match the point of view in a photo to apply 3D correctly.

Make a Plane object and align it to whichever plan you want, ZY etc.
then make a material and in the the Colour section, add your image.
Then planar map it to your Plane object. You may have to change rotation and scale settings on the mapping tag to get it to fit.
the best way is to make the plane a multiple of your image resolution e.g. if you image is 1024 x 768 make the plane 10.24m x 7.68m (if that is the scale you use) then select the material tag and in the Texture menu, choose fit to object.
then in perspective view you will have your image.

thanks, I know this method, but I was thinking more along the lines that the bgimage takes the place of the gray background.
The grid and workspace is on top of this again, as in the other views if you use a background image.
But i reckon this isn't possible?

I've only got R8 here but if you go into Edit/Preferences and then Interface, there is a background colour which can also be an image.
Or, and this seems a lot better.
Change to perspectice view and on the little menu at the top of the view window (not the main menu), there is Edit/Configure and you can put an image there in the background section.

use a sky object. (you can play around with the mapping on this easily)
or a background object (which will fit your render outpu perfectly).
or for more control the equivalent of a sky object is really just a huge sphere, and the equivalent of a background object is a plane (placed well behind you robjects)with a look at camera expression tag on it.
