This is what i want.

I have a folder with many images.
I want to make one photoshop file that has all of the images in it.
It would be great if the layer name was the same as the file name.

I need to do this multiple times.

Is there an action i can create to do this, or has someone already written a script to do this sort of thing?

This would save me a lot of time.

Thanks

I'm 100% sure scripting can do that, you should check www.ps-scripts.com and ask the people on the forum there, they're really professional and helpful.

Maybe file -> automate -> contact sheet II does what you're after?
There's also an option in this menu that writes the names of the original files under the images.

Alternatively fire up imageready and go File>Import>Folder as frames. Let it do it's thang. Now move the file to photoshop.
Only useful thing I've ever found in imageready. :)
