I know i remember seeing a new feature long before i got my copy of 4.5 that let you translate and stack objects inside a volume. I can't find this anywhere.
I don't even know what this feature is called so I can look it up.
Could someone please point me in the right direction.

I don't have 4.5 yet but try reading the What's New document. Every release of maya has documented new features quite well. I'm guessing from the movies on the aliaswavefront site that what you're describing is the Align Tool.

if the ALIGN TOOL , is indeed what you're looking for, you can find it in "-
go to the MODIFY menu, and select SNAP/ALIGN objects
>>>> then ALIGN TOOL
click the first object you wanna align then shift select the second , the objects will align to the last object you select.
active manipulator handles will appear in blue for the last object you select and a transparent box surrounds all the objects.
Hold your mouse over the objects to show yellow handles, which will show which way the objects align.

hope this helps...

cheers

Lordofmaya: You got it, that's it.. Thanks. :D

Hmmmm... Upon further inspection::annoyed: This ins't as cool as a feature as I thought it would be. I thought the box would be more interactive, that I could DRAG the boundries and all of the items selected would conform to the shape of the box. Damn I must've been high but I thought you'd be able to add some tipe of noise to all the contents in order to stagger and shift said contents so everything laid more naturally and not so rigid.

Oh well. At least its here, I can't say its not useful at all. Just not as useful as I'd like it to be.
