Paint Skin Weights Tool.

What I want to do is sample the colour around the knuckle fig (A), and paint the gradiant vetex by vertex to get a smooth transition when the knuckle bends like in fig (B)

If anyone else has any smarter ideas to go about this let me know.

why don't you just use the smooth option in the tool box?
