View Full Version : Eddie Murphy Lip Sinc
T.L.Caroopy 08-24-2005, 03:58 AM Here's a quick test I did last night to see if the blendshapes I had would be enough for this lip sinc. There are a few letters I had problems with but I thought I'd share this with you guys.

No responses so far huh? Either I'm reallly good (which I doubt) or I'm so terrible that everyone is throwing up at first sight. http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon7.gif Well either way I'm still going to post my progress. This new version includes blinks, eye brows and new blend shapes. Also it is toned down majorly.

Funny sound bite. Here's some thoughts.
The hand motion he does to his face doesn't read well. I cant tell what he's doing.
The whole thing is very floaty. I would pick 3 or 4 strong poses over the whole clip and stick with them. Use moving holds.
His hips are completly static. Think about his whole body. This sounds like a stand up routine, which is presented by the comedians whole body. When you are watching a stand up routine, you are usually seeing the whole comedian. Put him up on a stage!
The lip sync isn't working for me. His lips never close. All I see is teeth. Theres no toungue either. He says "homosexuals" twice. Thats a lot of 'm's and 'L's.
Eyes should move really jerky. They dont roll into place, they jerk around. Like a little bird's head.

Here's a cleaned up version of my last post. There are two versions to view one is a wide shot with the whole body shown the other is a close up of his top half so you can better see the mouth movements.

congrats on the job-getting :)
the renders look nice, but i still notice some things you could fix on the animation, if you havent fixed them already.
-i think the second pose where he looks at his hand is still weakening the piece. i dont really get it, and its almost too perfectly rhythmic with the other poses you have. i'd smooth out the transition between the first and second pose, or overlap the action. its just a bit jerky and robotic. you might want to consider saving a separate version of your scene and getting rid of that pose altogether and see how it looks.
-the neck, shoulders and head are a bit stiff at the beginning. they work well at the end though. i think if you move them very slightly, just a few degrees, it'll help the movement be more organic.
-i didn't notice this until you posted the wideshot, but there is almost no weightshift!
you need to move his COG over to the leg that's supporting him, especially when he takes those little steps. its just too neutral right now and looks unnatural.
-move the eyebrows. they should be moving with his face shapes, especially when he blinks. it'll also help show whatever emotion he is trying to convey.
thats about it! good luck on your new job :)
