Hardcore critique
I don't think your demo reel is up to par with current gaming standerds . The models were using to many polys for the quality that you had .
My advice
You need to look at games like Doom 3 and such because a lot of game companies are going to want that kind of quality in there games ( Do a lot with few polys 2- 5000* range * ) . You need to show that you can work with Bumb maps and specularity maps . Your characters moved around slightly but try and show a walk cycle or something outside of basic movement . You need to work on your painting skills more your textures have room for improvement
To be honest you would be better doing a short 10 second very high quality model with animation then 10 mediocre quality models , take your time and set a standerd with yourself and work at that standerd , but make sure it is as good or better quality as the games that are on the market or you won't find a job ..good luck

hmm i'm just loading you'r reel ... lets see
another thing i want to say because the doom III was mentioned ( me poor german so excuse tse bad english;)
i somehow got a hold of the doom III demo .... the models are awsome !!!! reallys and the textures well ... top !
a few things i went through
1. Joy because i found a MayaImportx86.dll in the doom dir ... so i hoped that i can look at the models or even make my own
2. Disappointment ... all i found were some strange formats and a few LWO files ... SPALTER ! .. ;)
does anyone know with which resolution (polycount) doom 3 works ?
(ps: i still turn the sound off when i play it ... very spooky ! ;)
ps2: i just watched your reel and the first thing that i saw was (if the shader is correctu used for the mesh) that u used way to much poly's for the face of the girl

hey jason, congrats on graduating!!
downloaded your reel.
1st off just wanted to say youre a good artist, and like all of us, just keep developing your skills...try to make every piece better than the last, and constantly compare yourself to whats being done professionally.
I really liked the concept car model, nicely done.
the figures are executed well, but as mentioned, the polys might be a little dense. Overall they arent overly exciting to me.
In my opinion, (and take it for what its worth, I'm just an average joe) youre models ,especially for games, are more interesting to look at when they are bigger than life, and have a definate personality.......adding an animation appropriate to the personality youre trying to convey will especially make the characters more memorable. As is they seem a little on the average side.
<rant> people play games for many reasons and want to play characters that are bigger than life and can do things fun or entertaining that cant be done in real life....its escapism, I mean who wants to be the average villager hillbilly in everquest, no they want to be the dragon slayer with all the cool gear and magic weapons</rant>
just a couple more notes on the presentation itself.....might want a more up tempo music, the slower tempo makes it feel long, especially when youre essentially looking at a modellers tape, most people see hundreds a week and will look at it in a hurry, you probably dont want to make it feel slow.
also, your download is 14 megs.....most people who are gonna spend the time to DL a 14 meg vid have a fast connection anyway, lighten up on the compression, there were points where I could get a good look at your model because of blurry artifacting from compression...
Good luck man!
