Hi,

I hope someone can help me out with this one, probably a stupid question with an easy answer, but I can't seem to figure it out:

I just installed Max 5 and when I render an image it renders out a little grainy. The images don't render as clean and smooth as in Max 4.2, but instead it has tiny dots in it :hmm:

I really don't have a clue why this happens. I never had this problem with Max 4.

All help & suggestions appreciated!

Greets.

do you have any plugin installed ?
maybe, are you using any gi/lightracer ? could be related to low samples ?

No I don't have any plugins installed and haven't used GI either. Just a plain render of any scene (for example a simple box with a color on it and 1 omni) already results in somewhat grainy renders.

Very weird!

More help would be welcome...

Screenshots!, I crave screenshots!, feeeed meeee.

And possibly a delightful MAX scene as well if you feel up to it.

Maybe a silly response, but you never know, you havent changed to 16bit display mode between apps, that displays kinda grainy, could be plain old coincidence.

probably your WINDOWS DESKTOP RESOLUTION is in 16 bit instead of 24 or 32. & they are not GRAIN in your render, they are DITHRED colors.
check that out please.

Are you trying to do a GI rendering? If you are, make sure you are using enough samples.

Sorry for my late response, but I've been away for a couple of days.

jmonkey2000 & ila_solomon thanks dudes!!! You were both right. I don't know why, but my desktop resolution was indeed set to 16bit color.

I'm ashamed with my own stupidity

Tweaked every darn setting in far away corners of Max, turns out to be this silly solution :argh:

Thanks again!
