I have a problem when drawing in photoshop CS2 (same problem in earler versions). The brush just don't follow smoothley when i draw so i have must draw slowly or in small parts at a time with not to large brushes.
I work in A3 format with 300dpi. My cpu-system is a p4 3,0 and 2 gb ram and a parhelia graphics card. And I use a acecad pentablet.( when I use the mouse it's even worse)
I have set photoshop to use 70% of the ram and have a scratchdisc.
When i draw it don't seem to use all the ram so I can't understand why it lag.
Does anyone know what the problem is? or is this the way its sopposed to be?

make sure "smoothing" is turned on in bruch palette..
Do you mean you have a delay when you brush? Does it happen with small and large brushes?

Yes delay was the word. The larger the brush the bigger delay. And even if i have a smaller brush i must draw slowly for it to follow in real time.
For example if i draw a big circle fast (or just not slowly enough)it gets more of an octagon look than a cirkel because of the delay.
Try reinstalling the drivers of your wacom, see if that helps. As far as i know the really big brushes have the delay, i think it's a photoshop thingy. It could also be the parhelia card, but i doubt it.
The best thing i can see is to try uninstall and reinstall the wacom drivers.

The brush just don't follow smoothley when i draw so i have must draw slowly or in small parts at a time with not to large brushes.I had a similar problem for a short time in CS but it was gone when I moved to CS2. In order for the brushes to work properly I had to check "spacing" for any brush in the brush settings and get it down to 1%. I remember that it started suddenly after I had done some changes to Photoshop or hardware configuration but I can't remember what exactly those changes were anymore. :/

You need at least 1G of Ram for Photoshop to work properly (which you have). Since you have that and you are still having performance issues with your brush - I would check the RAM to make sure it is not faulty - that happens more than some people realize. Also you didn't mention what OS you were using. On Windows if you have Photoshop and Windows sharing the same scratch disk you could run into issues like the one you are having. Make sure photoshop is using a disk other than C:\

Hello
Thanx for all replies
I use windows xp and have photoshops scratch disc on another harddrive. I've been thinking about if it's my graphicscard that is the problem. but on other hand the parhelia is made for video editing and have special drives for php and some other adobe programs. So it feel strange if its that.
The brush spacing is set on 1%.
And a wacom. hehe i wish it was. its a cheap wannabe. But a wacom i'll get one day. moahaha. but i'll try reinstall the drives.
I'm gonna test the rams. But when I have the scratch sizes option activated in the bottom list on php. The number don't transcends the free ram.
How do you experience the feeling of drawing in photoshop? Does it feel like you can draw withe a smooth feeling without having to be slow with the drawing hand? Perhaps I'ts just supposed to be like this :P
If u find out something else please let me know. U gave some tips to try now though.
Try this:
Photoshop>Preferences>Type, and uncheck Font preview size.

Heeh
Yes i've read the adobe help about memory and optimizing. And that is the strange thing that i still have this bad results.
I did find that it's better workflow when i have larger spacing on the brushsetting. But as you said xsenos its better result with 1% so i preferebly work in that.
And as it is said. photoshop isn't really a painting or drawing program.
It's just that i see theese drawings/paintings here in cgtalk that are made in photoshop and start wondering about if all these people have the same brushdelay.
I'm gonna go check somebody elses computer performences. ehm heh
