View Full Version : Bud - WIP - C&C Desperately Needed
nomadicrain 08-22-2005, 02:06 PM This is a character that I am modeling for some shorts. His name is Bud and this is the first version of his face that I think is good enough to show. Tear it to shreads. C&C needed.

looks great so far esp. like the side view man. theres really no much to critique since your not far enough in your model yet. One thing ive been told many times by sime very talented people is always to keep your topology in mind when modeling.
looks pretty good im waiting for updates

Thanks dimi...how is the topology so far. That is why I have redone this model 4 times so far. I would get going and then notice that the topology was too bad to try to fix. I don't want to have to go through this on this version because I am finally liking what I have.

It is looking good. But I think the topology isn't correct. I had this same problem with the model I am working on. I may still have the problem, but I hope not. I spent a lot of time trying to get it right. Below is a picture of good topology that I used as a reference to help my work. The lines should follow the muscle structure of the face. I did some research by using a mirror too. Smile real wide and notice where the muscles that run from the nose down to the chin go. This smile line helps everything else fall into place in my experience. Hope this helps.

I see what you mean ISO - it just gets really difficult on this guy because his mouth is so flipping wide. Looking at the ref that you posted I can tell what I need to change to get the flow better. Thanks for the help.

I have been so busy lately. Haven't had time to really work on this or post. But I went back to the drawing board again and redid the entire model. I think the loops are placed better, the look is more cartoony to me now too. I am going to have to do something to get the brow defined a bit better. Would love C&C be harsh if necessary. :) I really want to know what you think of the style of the character so far and the topology.

hey, this looks great. Going back and reworking the loops will make a big difference when he's animated. A lot of this guy's emotion is going to come from his mouth and eyes and I think you're setting him up to be pretty successful there. Looks good, following the model very closely which is great, I liked his design and keeping true to that in 3d is what I was looking for. I'll keep checking back, good luck!

I agree. The loops look a lot better. I also think you are following the reference quite well. The only thing I can see right now, and this is a stylistic point is that the lips seem too human. But that might just be me. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the replies...been a bit busy so haven't had an update. How would you go about changing the mouth? I am not liking it all that much either. Just not sure how to go about making it more cartoony. I need to post the newest update which is the completed head and see what you all think about it. Anyways, thanks for the crits, and ideas for the mouth would be greatly appreciated.

Good start. Only crit I have right now is the eyes are to big. Maybe scale down the vertical. Keep it up.
