View Full Version : Unauthorized
My 3dsmax (version 4.2) keeps unauthorizing itself and I have no idea why. It is legal copy that for some reason seems to unauthorize about once every 3 or 4 weeks. I have made no hardware changes or even software changes. Today for instance I was using it this afternoon with no problems but then went to fire it up this evening and bam it unauthorized. I haven't even touched my computer since this afternoon. Why oh why am i cursed with this problem?

Call discreet.

I read somewhere that bad RAM can do this. When you call Discreet it might be worth mentioning what brand of RAM you have in your machine.
I ve called them before and all they do is just tell me the same thing not to make any hardware changes and I haven't. I plan on calling them on monday it is just annoying because the main time I get to use my copy of max is on the weekend so usually it unauthorizes on the weekend and then I have to wait to monday.
Oh well I guess it could be worse.
We have this problem also...no solution offered except to fax the new authorisation codes to Discreet and within a few hours we received new codes via email.
Something to do with CDilla licensing....but no definative answer.

Maybe it is some sort of automatic mantience your computer runs that throws off C-dilla. Also, if you run any type of "Go Back" program like "Goback by Adaptec" you will have to reauthorize

Check that MAx hasn't Ghosted itself.
Sometimes it happens that MAX appears to crash without really doign it. Solmetimes I'll dissapear form the taskbar, but still be there when you minimize all the other apps on top of it, when you then click it it'll pop back on the taskbar.
Or on some cases you won't even find it there. but you you check the task manager you'll see a MAX5 process running that is actually MAX 5 that decided to go invisible.
This has only happened a few times for me, mostly when I'm REALLY straining my memory before or during starting MAX.
thnks for all your replies. Wel it is finally monday so I will just call. I don't have a fax but that would have been halpful. C dilla is so incrediable annoying and buggy. Oh well atleast it will get fixed today. For not wanting people to steal their products they sure make it frustrating for those who actually spend the money to buy it. :thumbsdow

Something Ive found in the past wa that if you connet a firewire drive it can cause conflicts. But I think this was fixed in the latest c-dilla patch.

cDilla works pretty rock solid for most people, its usually local system problems that cause cDilla to freak out like it is for you. I would also do as blindleader suggested and check out your hardware for any problems.
Some viruses like Klez can cause cDilla authorizations issues, as can removable drives (hot swappable and USB drives), Norton Antivirus is pretty infamous for cDilla and Max problems, and removable storage devices can screw things up if they rearrange your drive order or IDs.
Finally give the Discreet webboard a buzz, Darv Atkinson is usually very quick to respond to questions like this and offer useful solutions.

Just use a crack. It's not illegal if you own a license. I know a lot of ppl who own a full set of licenses and use cracked versions because copy protection usually gives them a lot more trouble than a good crack. :(

Using a crack on legit software is still breaking your EULA as far as I know. Which is shit.
cDilla is a piece of crap, apart from it being fairly unstable it's also completely ineffectual against piracy. Max5 was cracked and on the net before Discreet had even shipped the first copies to Europe.
Well done Discreet for continuing to hurt legit customers while making life easy for pirates :shame:

Yet another reason to get Lightwave :p
Sorry, couldn't resist myself..

Yea LIghtwave is great in thaat aspect thats for sure. We have our lightwave locks on our key chains so we can use them wherever. Max on the other hand...PLE in not an 'rest easy' method of transferring your licence.
I know of alot of legit companies that have hack copies because they cant affeord the down time if an auth goes to hell.

Is Discreet allowing License transfers now?
A few years ago, I was teaching max 2.0/2.5 and we had a local company that went out of business so we were going to buy there 5 seats of Max from them and Discreet would not allow it. Though I do believe at that time, they were still part of AutoDesk.
Anyways, they lost our business forever. I don't even use Max anymore.

No they are not sadly.
Ive had someone approach us with a copy of max 3.0 at great price....hes outta the business and wants to sell it.
Talked to our reseller and they said that its a very grey area. and the offical word is 'NO'. What we could do if both parties wanted to was get him to "officialy" buy upgrades and re:auth for us. but thats just a stupid hassel.

Yep, they just want to keep capitilizing their brand, and making money. Max is a great product, but I don't like discreet's business model.
Anyhow, nice talking with you, I'm gonna head back to the LW forum where I belong :):buttrock:

are you running XP? I scanned this thead quickly and didnt see that posted. If you are you need to get an update of the CDILA from Discreet. The version that shipped with the CD dosen't like XP and will give you problems just like the one you are having.

The Eula isn't legal anyway in most countries in Europe AFAIK (don't know where the original poster is located). If you for example buy something here, no EULA can forbid you to sell it again.

We had one machine (out of 15 just like it) that lost authirisation every 2 days. We had tried the latest c-dilla (which you should do first) with no luck. Repartitioning and reformatting the drive didn't help either. The problem went away after I lowlevel formated the harddrive using an IBM utility called Drive Fitness Test (it was an IBM drive).
Now we use Flexlm and are very pleased with it.
