Smart Skin ???

I am using LW 7.5c.
rigging human charters

I can rig charters in TrueSpace and Basic C4D
u get a bone
assign dots,points to a bone.
C4D can assign dots, points to more the one bone.they call it vertex painting.
helps to bend knees,elbows.etc etc.

I read chapter 10 in the LW 7 Manuel several times.
Don't get it all yet.looked for tutorails

I watched this smart skin tutorial about smart skin.
http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/tutorials/animation/smart-skin/index.html (http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/tutorials/animation/smart-skin/index.html)

they use morphs n all is this how I should rig LW 7 charters ?
n if anyone one has some advice to offer or recommend any other tutorials I'm all ears.

I just watched that video. The pivot plugin is pretty sweet. However, you don't have to go as nuts with the expressions as he did. Using Cycler you can do the same kind of thing but with no expressions and, in my opinion, with a more WYSIWYG feel.

Funny thing is, this setup only works with very simple characters. As soon as you try this with a more complex character that doesn't have a tube for an arm the result you get in layout is completely different from what you see in modeler.

I don't know of any other way to create a morph that always works then to tweak you model in modeler and check the result in Layout which is not someting you do for fun. Or you could get SmartMorph which allows you to get much closer to what you create in modeler. Besides that it has a neat driven key feature for your morphs too, so you don't have to write any expression. Just strike a pose and create a key. As usual, 3rd party plugins give you more then what NT cooks up :-(

I think I need that SmartMorph plugin. I tried duplicating what he did but with a more detailed arm and the results were... scary. Is this because SmartMorph lets you apply the morphs after bone deformation? Or is it something else?
