No kidding this is looking superb, Mocca looks like it could be a winner  I think character animation was the main thing that stopped me from using previous C4D releases...

OK so I haven't downloaded the demo yet, but I have some questions about C4D R8 that maybe a power user can answer:
Is the character animation toolset on par with other 3D apps? If it's almost as good as Softimage's or Maya's and better than Lightwave's, then I'll definitely look into it. I'm not very keen on LW's IK and rigging workflow and it has a tendency to "shake" and behave strangely compared to other programs.
Does Cinema4D have a good Dopesheet / Graph Editor implementation? I mean, can you edit multiple keys on multiple objects simultaneously and real-time, does it give you full control of the Function Curve tangents?
Does it have a good UV mapping module? Can you easily "unwrap" geometry thus allowing you to texture map a model with projections without the need to do it all by hand?
Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

hmmm character animation toolset... well mocca certainly is powerful, and very easy to use. the soft ik is especially easy to set up. in all seriousness download the demo and try it for this. there's tutorial manuals that come with it, personally i find it a breeze, and people have been making stuff in ten minutes on the c4d thread that's trully impressive. i would say it's at the very least as good as lightwaves inbuilt system... but you wuill soon be able to get messiah animate too for c4d for some seriously hard core hard ik stuff (which is now vastly improved with mocca, but i don't think as good as maya for instance).
the standard timeline works in an after effects dopesheet way... multiple kyframes moved in realtime at teh same time, same as for the function curves, it's really rather nice. ans yes full contorl over funciton curve tangents.
uv mapping in the standard app (without modules) is only the standard mapping, with BodyPaint you get a few more options (like optimal mapping which is the same as atlas mapping in lightwave), there are a lot of good free plugins to help with UV mapping as this is a weaker area for c4d, UV2BMP will map however you want and also create outlines for you to drop into photoshop and play around with, and UVunwapper will create flattened polygeometry and the like. i should mention that as far as i'm aware bodypaint will be the next thing to be upgraded, and it's currently the same version just integrated into v8 as it was before. i should imagine they will be wanting to get back the lead that deep paint with deep uv took.
personally i find it to be a really great little... well actually now with version 8, not so little package anymore, it looks like it finally grew up. check out the renderzone section of my site for a few tutes on using xpresso and SLA (smells like almonds is the shader system by BhodiNUT). anyhow i hope this helps. the best thing for you to do is to download c4d, the tute manuals for c4d have been in the past the best manuals i've come accross for any product, and once you're comfortable with that stuff have a check on my website. also check the renderzone links as there are some great sites from there with really good c4d stuff.

I myself have doodled with the new Cinema4D version and i must say....it's awesome! Totally awesome. Have been using 3DSMAX and been looking into XSI and Maya, but finally i have found software that fits my needs and does it in such an easy way! Superb!
The dynamics part is so easy, using weighted hypernurbs by just pressing the '.' -key the animation has become so much better, Mocca tool for characteranimation is now finally comprehensible for mortals like me who have no time to get to learn the complex workflows of XSI, MAX or Maya! The default render-setup is so usable...etc.etc.. it will be my favourite for now!
