View Full Version : YOUR SKETCHBOOK (AUG 15-21): Post a page from your sketchbook

Hi guys, Roberto here.
I am going to try an experiment.
The idea is for people to post a page of their sketchbook.
The only rule is that it had to be drawn last week.

The cool thing with these threads is that it if you post often, it will give you a motivation to
show your sketchbook work either on this thread or next weeks threads.

So lets see some sketches!

More weirdness from me!
Here's hands and faces, a few aliens, and "The closest thing to art you will probably ever see in the book".

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b364/djtrousdale/page1.png

Then there's my concept of Huckleberry Finn*, and another scene with me as a monster (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=2564381&postcount=22).

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b364/djtrousdale/page2.png

*I was apparently supposed to read the book during the summer. I ended up reading it in one weekend and my parents wouldn't leave me alone until I did.

Welcome UhChris! I'd say you're in the right place... is that from a sketchbook?

Can't help you much with artistic advice... I specialize in rough cartoony drawings. However, great job with your first post, hope to see more!

This is a character design I did last week for studiomaxer3d (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=267856).
It's actually a couple pages from my sketchbook that were comp'd together with Photoshop (I hope that doesn't break the rules of the thread). :D

Being honest, that is a very cliche image.

You wanna get out of a slump, start doing art studies, anatomy, rendering techniques, line work, color theory, perspective and designing in perspective, transport and vehicle designs based on solid mechanical understanding, environment design etc.

Don't copy other people's cliche artwork.

heh i wouldnt know cliche artwork, i would give credit to whoever did the original but i dont know where its from, so sorry, i just liked the image so i tried to emulate it, one of the few things i was taught was to emulate artists you admire or works you admire, through emulation one can become better, kinda like setting goals sorta i guess, so sorry for being cliche, i just liked the picture lol,(it was actually a photo-like image i'd post the original but i dont know if thats allowd considering its not my work) but thank you for the feedback anyways, now i know thats cliche, but i dont pride myself in being original, im still learning, always learning in fact, and i just want to improve my abilities.

thank you, yes thats from my sketchbook, probably the first decent (if you consider it that) thing from this particular sketchbook lol, but thanks for the welcome, i draw more toonish things myself, though im trying to expand from that, and this is one of my few, none-toonish sketches, finally got the nerve to actually post something on these forums lol, thanks for the welcomeing btw, hope to see more of your toons as well!

I like these sketchbook threads. Everyone has such cool work! Magic man / mybutterflyiris, really really amazing!

I got some random environment sketches this week. Again, the quality isnt good. Think I need a new camera and/or scanner...

Uhchris, just keep at you eventually get good, just use the methods of what Magicman suggested and do what you do, the things maigicman suggested gets better understanding of what you are drawing through realism, I would start from realism first then move on to a more stylized feel. I hope this helps a little, holla!

OK, I'll post a piece. I was trying to work out some alien character studies for a project and this one turned out kind of neat I though so I worked on in a little bit more. About 20 minutes.

This is an outtake from my sketchbook. No reference at all. This took me 45min I think. Did this 2 or three days ago, I don't know! I have uploaded the rest of my sketchbook with other pictures to my deviantart account: www.nocric.deviantart.com - check it out.

The other submissions have been great: Keep up the good work guys and keep posting.
