Hello,

I'm currently working on my showreel and using bodypaint to texture my high-poly models.
I'm lovin it so far, but I'm on my futuristic bike model and I would like to paint in symmetry.
I've read other posts on this but didn't understand any of them, as they mentioned 'stick tags' (which I've never heard of and don't know how to use) and also deleting half the model (which I cant do cos, its not completely symmetrical and also I dont know how to copy and flip the side I've painted and then weld the two parts togther).

Is there not an option/button/settings that allows me to just have two brushes/points on screen at once, a lot like zbrush mirror modelling tool.

CAN ANYONE HELP

Thx in advance.

Hi Sonder,
No, there's no mirror painting function. I guess your UVs must be symmetrical though, or else such a tool would be worthless to you? If that's the case why don't you just paint half and take it into PS, where you can copy/mirror/paste it onto the other side?

If you have a symmetrical model under a symmetry object, when you come to paint it in Bodypaint, you get 2 paint brushes (or the illusion of 2 paint brushes) i.e. you end up painting on both sides at once.

A variation on this is to make the symmetry object editable and then just paint one side. This has a similar effect. Once you're finished you move the mirrored sides UV polygons out from underneath the first half and use the mirror UV or flip command. You can then use the "Remapping" command to copy the texture and place it under the moved UV's. This allows you to paint some variation on both sides. You can also manipulate textures with the "Transform bitmap" tool. This allows mirroring / flipping etc.

I cover this in my Bodypaint DVD that's coming out in a few weeks time for $49.95 US + p&p. Available then from C4D Cafe.

Hope this helps.

Great 3DKiwi!

More reason to make sure I purchase this DVD!

Quite true, but he said above that his model isn't fully symmetrical. :(

Still, as long as the outline of the UV islands are symmetrical he could mirror half and move them over the other half. Then you could just paint once and not have to worry about PSing.
