You can do a simple conversion using the framerate. If the framerate is 30fps, you'd decrement the counter every 30 frames.
Is it absolutely necessary for you to do this in script? It might be easier to just keyframe the animation of the text shape.

thanks for replying!
You said that it is also possible to keyframe the textshape. How can you do that? I'm an reasonably advanced user of 3d studio max but I cant figure how to animate the text of a text shape.

Maybe you can't:shrug:
I've been using Max since version 1.2, and I've never had the occasion to use text shapes. I just assumed them to be animatable like everything else. Ah, well...guess you're stuck with scripting it! Did my suggestion on that make sense to you?

Thanks for the reply,
I indeed tries to script it and it did work in the viewports, but nothing changes at rendertime. Guess this is out of my lead... Thanks anyway...

Hrmmmmmmm, I dont know, I think the key frame would be a good idea you need it to count down form 100 right? So, you will need 30000 frames if my math is correct. So what you do it put it on auto frame and key every 30 frames, and delete the number and put a newone in. This might be the worst possible way but it should work. If you are as advanced as you say you should be able to do it.
