Dear fellow artists,

I'm trying to build a interior and everything is going well(modeling wise), i just have a problem creating a sunlike effect for my interiour.

I want to create a effect like this,

I already tried the http://www.cgarchitect.com/ tutorials but i can't seem to make the effect work.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you,

Kishan Krishansing

Can we get a view of your scene,

Use a skylight with fg on, and an mr omni for the sun.

Fg is final gathering, if you have mental ray it uses skylights to make the scene very bright like if it was being lit by the sun.

When i use FG, i get weird shadows.

Try making the the samples for the fg higher, but this will make the render times much longer, and if you don't mind also post the .max scene so that I can see what I can do.

This is what i currently have, But it isn't really like the picture i posted ( it's nice but not what i wanted), what should I do? throw in more omni lights or something?

hmm

i dont think that it would be a good idea to get the same result as in your first pic.

Both Renders are totally different.

Keep in mind that the whole image (especially the material / colors) in the first render are totally balanced and aligned to the light.

In your case, thats absolutely not the fact. Especially the grey colored interior are a strong contrast to your desired color light effect.

In my view you have to change your color scheme in order to get the same calm /warm / friendly atmosphere.

I didn't want the atmosphere to be like that, i just want the shadows to be a bit harder, i'm going for the empty depressive room look ( and i still need to texture it ;)), But i should have told you that ^-^ my bad, sorry.

No prob mate...

He?!

harder? Dont you think that the shadows are hard enough?
Take as an example the first picture.
The shadows are soft and very realistic.

In your picture the shadows are very hard, especially in the corner of the desk. Its too dark there.
Perhaps take a look in some real rooms with the same lightning.
The Gi effect (in reality) will lighten it up and up.
Additionally the wall - material looks very bright and the floor is kind of wooden parquet and very shiny and the very bright light from outside.

Regarding that, the shadows have to be lighter and softer in my view.

What you think? :)

You are on the right path to that, really.
the camer view helps alot for that feeling...keep that up.

So far that looks pretty good, now you should up the samples and photons that are being shot out, then texture it and add inverse decay to your light source to give the scene that dark depressing mood you want.

This is what I got after making a simple scene with only gi and it rendered in 2 minutes.

Of course with a bit of tweaking you could make your scene look a lot better.
