What resolution should I render a film out at which I want to submit to festivals? Is it worth doing it at 2K, or should I stick to DVD 720?

I've seen documentaries originally shot on DV format got up-resed and shown at film festivals. If the content was worth watching, people could live with the picture quality.

Why don't you create and edit the film at DVD res, but just render a few of the frames at 2k to make sure your models and textures hold up at that res. Later, if you can get the computers and money to re-render at 2k and record to film, you can do it. If you were going to apply for any grants or get any company's help in the recording to film, you'd need to show a complete video version first anyway.

I'd say do it in hd... probably 1280x720p (or 1920x1080 if you want) and you'll have a really good in between to work with.

OK thanks guys. I need to balance render time against quality - 1280 sounds like a good middle-road (1920 is so close to 2000 that the render time would not be significantly shorter...)

I will render a few shots out at 2000 to check it out for consistancy.

Thanks!
