Hi all !

I have BIG problem with fur ona animated smooth polygons.

Here is mpg wich ilustrates what's happening .
This is normal pollygon cube with 8 height subdivision , boned then proxy smooth and then added fur.

In this mpg there are 3 animated cubes :

left cube history is : prepared UV , boned , proxysmooth 2, and agan i'v done UV (this is the best but it still not enoug )

middl cube history is : prepared UV , boned , proxysmooth 0

right cube history is : prepared UV, boned , proxysmooth 2

WHY hairs are flickering , they don't hold still like in the middle one ???
It's very important for me
Please HELP !!! haw to avoid this , haw to solve this problem...

It sounds like it has something to do with the equalizer maps, you dont have this problem with nurbs!! by smoothing it after you've skinned might have issues- changeing the bace mesh will effect the UV that you puy over smooth causing the fur to flicker if that makes any sence at all I've had problems with polys in the past you have got to get the uv's right to begin with, try un mapping the uv's then put the smooth on then the fur...it might do the trick

hope this helped

Thank's man . It is a solution for this problem , but creating UV after smooth on the object like polar bear its U know lot's of work and the worst , very long history....
is there a way to copy whole UV from other object to this one after smmoth ? ...
It's more then 10.000 polygons after smooth... !!! :)

try use a texture reff object...might work, havent tried

I have heard of this problem before. I think cinesite wrote an inhouse plugin to put fur onto sub-d's, so the bace poly dosent change and therefore the the Uvs stay the same

Thanks Jason for help...
The idea with makeing UV after smooth is workin...
But all now I need is somthink do copy UV form one object to another , because it's real takes too long to create UV with all of history in this object...

I found some mel's to copy UV but they don't work well...

Thanx. again....

No Prob. Looking foward to seeing this polar bear when its done!

what are your render times like? im getting around 15 min a frame on a Gorila character im working on with a fur density of 600000.

is this gorilla on NURBS or polygons , animated ?
I always have problem when I have to create surface that have very smooth connectnion between arms and corps and legs , that why I started to work on polygons not nurbs...
Nurbs makes me creazy ....

300 000 - ~7 min..

Nurbs!!! I just get frustrated using fur on polys so even though nurbs are a pain to work with and I love polys. But to do this gorila I had no choice but to use nurbs, plus the fur render is shyte! so I'm going to be using JIG to render it so I got to make sure the fur works and I just cant trust polys to do that

nice to hear that i'm not the only one with this problem...
I was begining to think that i'm doing somethink wrong ...
I'm doing this bears for commercial of Cocacola , but local , only in this country. And there are not the oryginal Cocacola bears but it's some kind of branding.
So it wont be enythink special... That's the commercials busines in Poland.. sux.. so i'm trying to do some MusicVideo for small bands - thas't what i like moust...
