"The archive is either in unkown format or damaged"

That's strange, I used WinRAR 3.42 to compress the files...

It works here perfectly...

Thanks loocas,

I'll try downloading it again.

I don't think it should be necessary, try first downloading the latest version of WinRAR...

However if it doesn't work, then you'll probably have to download the tutorial again

Looks like a really great tutorial. However, I tried almost everything, but can't unpack the file. Tried with the latest version of winrar, downloading with and without a download manager.

Maybe the file you uploaded is corrupt. The only thing strange I see, that you say on your site that the filesize is about 442 MB, the downloaded file is about 229MB big, so maybe that is the problem.

Hope you can fix this. Looking forward to see the dubbed english version

I have tried to download it 3 times and I have Winrar 3.5 and it gives me the invalid format or archive is damaged.

Mine also stops at 229mb.

Yes, I made these for intermediate 3ds max users. I use a lot of scripts and advanced techniques in there...

However, since you have the setup scene in the pack ;) you can use that as a starting point...

I tried to minimize the time spent on preparations for you guys

Maybe its not a tutorial for me, but there are certainly a lot of people who can learn many things with that.

Thank you buddy to powering up the community, and in my view the others have to express their gratitudes too....

Loocas,

This is one of the best tutorials I have ever seen. Very impressive and inspiring!

One thing I want to let you know is that you can compress hours of sound as mp3 quality at a very small size. I have done that before. If you want, I can help you on that.

- Well, I captured everything directly using TSCC codec, so it helped me to reduce the file-sizes. However it all took around 10GB of space on my HDD (note that I had two separate versions of each tutorial, since I did them in Czech and English).

I cant download the English version! All I get in part one is a 33KB file, Where can I get the English version from?.

- You have 2 options at each videotutorial file. The first and also the recommended one is a BITTORENT download. That's the 30KB file. You HAVE TO HAVE a BitTorrent manager in order to download the file. I provided you with a direct link to one of many BitTorrent managers:

BitTornado (http://download.bittornado.com/download/BitTornado-0.3.12-w32install.exe) from BitTornado.com (http://www.bittornado.com/)

The other option is a HTTP download and that's a direct download of the RAR file placed on my provider's server.

:) ..glad I downloaded this yesterday before you made front page,

Thanks alot for the tutorials

Cheers

The codec can be downloaded from

www.techsmith.com

I know there is a quicktime component. Not sure if there is one for windows media, but that is the place to look anyway.

- Yep, I did say that, and besides it's also clearly stated on the site above the videotutorials downloads... ;) Thanks for helping out mate...

I have almost watched part 1 and I must say I like it very much. You have a very good understanding of topology and you also posess good knowledge about the tools and the program in general. We work with many of the same methods and I LOVE how you stress reference. I feel people don't take me seriously when I push reference on them!
I modeled a Nokia 6600 a while ago and I had some problems alligning the parts and I see know that I should have been thinking more like you do in this video :)
http://www.final3.com/images/nokia/nokia_frontView.jpg

I have some triangles here and there, but it still looks ok in the render so I haven't really bothered too much with the quads you almost demand us to use :p

I feel the sound could have been better in quality, but it works ok. Sounds like you're sitting inside with a tornado on the outside btw :D

I am going to watch part2 and 3 and I'm looking forward to it too. Thanks for taking the time to create this.

- Hehe, yeah! NO REFERENCES == NO RESULTS! Thanks for the kind word mate, I appretiate it :)

As for the bad quality of the sound, I decided, since I was still able to understand what I was saying clearly, that I didn't need a uber-super quality of sound. So I rather saved a few Bytes on the sound than on the videoquality, also the file-size was a bit of a issue. I definitely didn't want do cross the 450MB budget. ;)

- You're welcome man ;) As for the beginner tutorials...? Well, I don't know of any in particular, but there's MILLIONS of such on the internet, some of high, some of poor quality, nevertheless try these forums, also 3dkingdom, 3dpalace, 3dbuzz etc... etc... Also cg-academy.net has some great tutorials for begining artists. And I also recommend you checking out the on-line reference that ships with max  Good luck mate!

Yeah, sound is fine. I understand what you're saying :)
Maybe in the future you can create better sound, higher filesize, put it on DVD and sell it ;)
But I think it's great that you do it for free. I'm writing a large tutorial/article on a project myself and plan not to make any money on it. It feels good to bring something to the community doesn't it ?

All I can say is thank you! Very generous of you to do that.

I will try to build/model something like a plane or a car with tons of gadgets on them using some of your techniques....If it applies of course. It will be fun.

Thanks again

And remember: It is you who I'm making all this for! So enjoy it!!

Can't you give us any idea about what the next one will be on!?!?

- Sure ;) I'm going to release 3 training DVD's, however it's going to be commercial stuff only :( No free tutorials this time. But don't be sad :D I'm going to be releasing some more FREE videotutorials as well later on, maybe early next year.

Oh btw: If you know any good distributor in the USA, GB, AUSTRALIA or generally WORLD-WIDE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I'd love to get the DVD's to your homes as comfortably and fast as possible!

As for further details on the DVD's: INTERMEDIATE ORGANIC MODELING, INTERMEDIATE UV MAPPING and INTERMEDIATE TEXTURE PAINTING. All done on the finished model from the first DVD. Top-Notch stuff guys!

And if you ask for the price?! The competition will have some nightmares! Believe me! :buttrock:

More to be announced...

Hey,

Well, there is one distributor I know of...lulu.

They have a new and innovative system of printing/publishing (yes, they do DVD's too).
Their method is called Print on Demand, where they have multiple HIGH QUALITY laser printers that can print about a book every 2 minutes. Many computer manual manufacturers use this service.

Much like amazon.com, you can browse through an intuitive website, look at people's own works etc.

I don't know all the details, but it certainly is an idea to consider. I honestly don't know what other types of distributors you were thinking of, but this is the best I can conjure up.

>>>Lulu Homepage<<< (www.lulu.com)

By the way, I most certainly WILL BUY your next 3 DVDs. I just hope that they go into as much detail as you did on the last 3 vid tuts.

Ok I hope everything goes well, and I look forward to seeing your product on the market soon.

Hello... I just started downloading your tutorials tonight. I'm halfway done with the second one now. I'll try to watch them tomorrow when I get a chance.

I had a thought on your distribution question. You may want to talk to the guys over at 3DTotal.com They have about 14 Total Texture Cds out, 1 animation DVD called the Shorts Drawer, and at least 1 more training DVD about organic modelling a head... I think. They have some pretty good partnerships going on and it may be worth a shot. Good Luck with your future endevours! :) (BTW, if all goes well, tell them Marty_McFly-3DT sent you. If it doesn't go well... you never heard of me! )

Wow, man.. awesome tutorial!!! thanx a lot for sharing ur knowledge with us!!

Btw, I'm new with 3dsmax and i found it a bit difficult to follow ur video tutorial. I notice that you set maxscripts in the toolbar and use it quite often throughout the tutorial. I followed ur instruction, downloaded the script and put them inside max folder, but i couldnt get my interface to look like ur UI. I find out that you can actually save ur customized UI and load it later on. Do you mind posting ur custom UI here?

I was probably one of the many who downloaded the tutorials and expected to make my own phone right away. While that didn't happen, I still wanted to say there was a lot to learn from watching those videos, and I haven't opened up 3dStudio (or any 3d program for that matter) in about 3 years. It was truly helpful to watch an advanced user such as yourself go through the steps, and study the matured techniques of tackling the project. I took away some real gems of knowledge, and it inspired me to open up this program more than once every 3 years.

I've downloaded the file three times now and each time I get an error message concerning the avi file. It says it's corupt and will not unzip. I'm using version 3.51 to unzip. The other files work fine, it's just the avi file that says it's corrupt. Any suggestions?

No idea what so ever :(

I've had a few people complaining about the archives... In the end, it turned out they were downloading it without any download accelerators or any other specific software. So if you downloaded it directly using IE or FireFox, I'd strongly suggest you re-downloading it again with TotalCommander or Download Accelerator etc... Because I packed the files with WinRAR 3.42, so you should be safe...
