Hello,

I'm trying to use C4D R8.2 with the new Messiah demo. I noticed the demo had a "C4DR8" plugin dir, so I copied it to my C4D plugins dir. I followed the steps in the Messiah guide. Everything smooth, but I noticed that everytime I try to load a messiah file with a char not created in C4D (a sample scene), it will ask me if I want to connect with host. I hit yes and when I go to C4D the model is not displayed and then if I try to select the model on the navigator, C4DR8 will crash (everytime).

Then I tried using a C4D character, connected with Messiah, badda-biing-badda-boom, I see my character in Messiah. I bone him and animate him, but when I go to C4D and scrub through my animation, although he animates, he also spins in circles... wierd.

Any suggestions? Thanks :D

I'm starting to get the feeling that the "live host connection" feature in Messiah is not all to stable. Am I right? Seems like the only app that more or less works well is Lightwave. I was really hoping to use Messiah as my character animation tool for C4D, but I think I might have to wait some more. I know I can use Point-oven-pro and the MDD reader, but that's a negative in my workflow. I don't like having to merge my scene many times to see the updated animation.

Hi vegabros,

your impression is right that the live connection with messiah isn't very stable. With LW it works best, but even then not a 100% reliable. But using PointOven is quite convenient: MDD Reader (for C4D) as well as the PointOven Reader plug-ins (for all the other apps) read the MDD files "on-the-fly", so you only need to export the MDD data from messiah (which is a one-click operation) to update the animation in the other app.

Plus this pipeline is used in amny of the big house.
They have their own pointcloud data process.
PointOven is just one you can buy.
Even with LW stable connection, I perfer the PointOven way.

Will these plugins work with the demo version of Messiah? Also, the MDD reader says Cinema 4D 8.5 or higher... I have 8.2 :(

No. if they did then you would have no need for buying it.

Kinda stinks, it's hard to see how practical this workflow would be without testing it. I would rather have a Messiah 30-day trial :)

It might be possible that MDD Reader also works with C4D v8.2, I have tested it only with v8.5 and above. So I would suggest that you just download the plug-in with the sample file and check whether at least the C4D part of your intended pipeline works.
