View Full Version : Character:Outlaw Volleyball Girl

Here is a new girl I made for the xbox game Outlaw Volleyball. This is the in game model with a different texture that I have been playing around with. The actual game models texture isn't as "gothy".. you'll have to wait a little while to see that one. There is slight touch up work done in photoshop to fix some of the wierd binding that was happening. Made in maya and photoshop. Just want to see if you all like her as much as Shawnee who I posted a little while back under spyder7479..

Looks great, the tattoo is a really nice touch, although if you stare at it long enough, it looks like a smiling dog's head :D

so xzevlin, how long have you been staring at it? :-)))) Yeah, I agree, though, it does look like a smiling dog.

Awesome model, very sexy. :bounce:

How sweet she is! Great job! Can you give us some texturing information on her....How many textures, what size? And could you show us some texture flats? Might as well go all out and break down your texture skills as well...Keep up the fantastic work.

I know the XBOX is powerful but 14.5 thousand polygons ingame? I realize that most of the polygons on-screen are going to be used in characters with a volleyball game, because thats mostly what you see in the confined arena, that just seems like lot. Good model though :) -Jeremy

take some polies out of the face and put em in the shoulders and ears

her wrist looks a little wierd

Diamant
11-03-2002, 09:09 AM
Kaz- thanks for the compliment.. stahlberg is one of my favorites and my goal is to hopefully become better then he is.. sorry steven, can't leave you at number 1 forever :) as for the method of modeling.. its box modeling.... start from a sphere and get that. no smoothing or anything.

pighat- there is one 512 map for the body and a 512 for the head. i'll see if i can get a chance to post the maps later.. i just got back from the city and its too late for me to turn my other computer on and search for the maps now..

Roach[MXF]- yea, the xbox is that powerful... this is not even the highest model.. shawnee and summer are about 16k poly's.. the xbox handles them fine.. its an awesome machine..

well...gotta get to sleep...glad everyone is liking her so far.

wait a sec, no smoothing? Do you make the low low ploly shape, smooth it once and go from there at least? Or u never touched the smooth button?

Diamant
11-03-2002, 09:34 AM
nope...never touch the smooth button at all....i just use split polygons, merge vertices...and artisan

harmonic01
11-03-2002, 09:39 AM
Yeah, when I thought about editing a mesh like that, Artisan sprung to mind right away. :-) [goes to look for a plug-in for max that does it]

hey diamant,

you've just given me reason to buy the game AND the system as well. Awesome looking gal , dude. Tattoo's a very cool idea too. you should seriously think of making a blonde, redhead and pink haired gals as well. with tattoo's would be perfect. you can also give them a couple of good piercings , eyebrows - nose - ears - lips - tongue - navel. would be cool too. also tattoo's above her A** , ankle, chest would be cool too.
overall, a very good model, no doubt ! I'm going to try excel you in modeling beautiful women. be warned...lol.
cheers

hi, really like ur work on this game...
what 3d soft do u use in the company for models? and for animation?

in fact is pretty impressive the numbers of poly u are oging to have ingame ...but maybe u ll use lods...

btw i am looking forward to see some ingame footage...

Diamant
11-03-2002, 11:47 PM
endseason- we use maya for everything. we have made lod's for the characters. as of right now they are not being used... but if we find that it really speeds things up they are there and easily encorporated.... hopefully within the next couple months you will be able to see some in game footage.. there is still a lot of work to do with the game so I dont know when we will have a chance to put something together.. i'm sure you'll hear something when its out..

Diamant....Great work...very sexy girls...
I have a question..
are the bikinis actually modelled, or are they textures....?

Diamant
11-04-2002, 12:11 AM
bikini's are modeled with thier own textures... the models are actually modeled naked and thier outfits are modeled on top. We do this so we dont have to retexture the characters for every outfit we build..

Baal
11-04-2002, 12:17 AM
The indian girl is probably my favorite, really beautiful model and textures... just one thought tho, her hands looks a bit weird (the fingers seems to be too short).

Anyway, great work!

Diamant
11-04-2002, 12:23 AM
Baal.. actually...you are right.. the indian girl has been changed..her hands, arm lenght...and lenght of the legs. i just dont have a render of the most current version. There were a few critiques on her in the past which were noted and changed..

endseason- I'd like to tell you that we will have bump maps, but I can't.. As of right now there is no bump on the characters.. I am trying to get it implimented but its really up to the programers.. who knows, there still is time.. we really dont have a set date for the games release yet. It'll probably be around feb or march.

hopefully within the next couple months we will release a movie with gameplay so you guys can see the girls move..

yamazake- her hair is attached to the model.. basically made the same way I made everything else.. just split the poly's and shaped it.. the clothing is a separate object for the sole reason of swapping outfits easily between a single character.

thanks for all the compliments guys.. I appreciate it :)

Very nice. No critiques.

These pics makes me wonder, though: What function do these sorts of bathing suits serve? I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering why humans are so weird about things like this. "Modesty" is a pretty poor excuse, since nothing is really hidden with an "outfit" like that. We might as well all just walk around naked (seriously). I would, if it weren't against the law;)

Laa-Yosh
11-08-2002, 06:18 PM
I'm going to oppose the general opinion here and say that you really need to work on your anatomy. Almost every model (especially the ones posted later) of yours has some proportion related problems, usually hand size, upper/lower leg lenght and shape, and a few more minor issues. Some other parts look pretty good though.

There are some technical issues as well, mostly polygon distribution. You should really put more detail to the body and arms instead of the nostrils and lips, which probably will not be bigger than 10 pixels on a TV's 640*480 resolution screen anyway. I would also remove any long, thin polygons because they tend to mess the shading. Realtime 3D hardware's interpolations are based on triangles and this can get you some ugly artifacting.

It's a good idea to aim high, but there's still quite a difference between your work and that of Steven Stahlberg. Keep going though, you definitely have talent.

Sausage
11-08-2002, 07:25 PM
I really like these models. Impressive for in-game meshes. Although, I do agree with some of Laa-Yosh's comments. There are anatomical errors. The biggest problem for me is the hands too.

Still, these are great models and I look forward to seeing them jiggle and move around.

I like the camel toe on the first one too ;)

Diamant
11-08-2002, 08:32 PM
thanks for all the compliments guys.. I do appreciate it..

Laa-Yosh... I do appreciate your critiques. However, like i stated before..I did get those same crits back when I showed the indian girl model and did end up changing them.. you are correct, the hands were too small, upper thighs were wrong..and a few other things...all which were changed...I just didn't render the new ones.... the girl on the first page however I dont feel suffers from the same small hand problems...I could be wrong though... But I did end up matching the girl to a human skeleton...So I do know the proportions are pretty close.. As for the polygon distribution.... Its not that bad...obviously its not perfect..but the characters are in the game already, and there really isn't any wierd shading...Not to mention the specular on the characters is per pixel, so it doesn't really need to be a perfect distribution.. the reason the faces are so detailed is because alot of people look at that first.. especially since we are using blend shapes with complete facial animation and expressions...the polygons do matter there.. I do aim high... and I know I'm no Stahlberg.. but I am also young and am going to try my hardest to become as good as I can.. I also dont think it is necessarily fair to compare real time models to ones made for rendering...obviously steven doesn't have to worry about polygons when he makes his models... they obviously will look nicer then mine.. Thanks for the crits though.. I do like hearing the bad things too so I can get better.. I dont mean to sound so defensive...just trying to explain my situation..

Not bad, not bad at all, really like models.

Gotta say though, I like what you guys are doing over there with outlaw sports, your golf game is so funny, nothing like beating up your caddy to make a fun game.

Be cool if we could see these girls fighting with the referee, or even better with each other after a bad play/call was made ;)

hmm...got the next game for you guys, Outlaw mudwrestling, I'll buy a copy of that :)

well Ckerr812, your in luck... outlaw volleyball is going to have a mini fighting system in it where you will be able to fight your opponents...either computer or human.. not the ref though... obviously its not going to be dead or alive but hopefully when its finished it will be something cool to play. Glad you liked Golf... we worked really hard on it to try to make it as fun as possible..

Emiliano... ali landry was the reference for this girl... not too many girls out there hotter then her :)

I noticed this is going into a game. She is pretty high res for a game character, plus she not triangulated. whats your projected polycount for each character?

Diamant
12-15-2002, 09:40 PM
-Are3d..... they are all already in the game... with the same polygon count that you see there.. around 16k.. for xbox its not that high..it can handle it...plus there are lod's when they are far away.. they are not triangulated because i dont like building them triangulated.. it doesn't look as clean.. when you export the character it automatically gets triangulated..

I can't believe this thread keeps getting resurrected :) guess thats a good thing.. hopefully soon I can get some more renders of some of the other girls up here... as well as some other personal projects I'm working on.. Thanks again for all the compliments everyone :)
