View Full Version : max: camera animation problem
redskin106 08-18-2005, 07:25 PM Hi guys,
just a quick question:
i created a camera and linked it to a dummy with a path constraint applied to.
my problem is that at a certain point (when the path goes straight vertically) the camera rotates around its axis and this messes up my animation. is there a script or anything i coudl do to change that (i dont wanna have to keyframe it please)???

Have you tried checking the 'Allow upside down' box?
Not entirely sure what your problem is, but this may help...
Example: To prevent flipping of targeted objects during rotation:
Add a Target Camera object (mk:@MSITStore:F:Applications3dsmax%207Help3dsmax.chm::/target_camera.html).
Activate the Move tool and use the coordinate display (mk:@MSITStore:F:Applications3dsmax%207Help3dsmax.chm::/coordinate_display.html) to position the camera and target at 0,0,0 and 80,0,0, respectively.
Add a Dummy object (mk:@MSITStore:F:Applications3dsmax%207Help3dsmax.chm::/dummy_helper.html) and position it at 0,0,0.
Use Select And Link to link the camera to the dummy, and then link the camera target to the dummy. At this point, the dummy is parent to both the camera and its target.
Rotate the dummy about its Y axis, and watch the camera.
As the target passes through the zenith and nadir of its orbit, the camera flips.
Select the camera and go to the Motion panel. On the Look At Parameters rollout, turn on Use Target As Up Node.
Again rotate the dummy about its Y axis.
The camera no longer flips.
Thats a problem sometimes coming up with the look at controller.
