View Full Version : Character: Samurai
TogaMario 08-18-2005, 06:24 AM Hello everyone. I wanted to make a simple character model with a texture for my portfolio, and decided that a samurai would be fun and a learning process all together.. All I have to work from are reference pictures and my head (which tends to lie often) so, be gentle :) Or rough, since it IS supposed to go into a portfolio. The poly count right now is at 1100. C&C as I go. I want as much help with this as possible, because I know the quality of work that comes up here, and I'm hoping your insights will help boost me along. Thank you!

The arms look tiny and the head too big atm, look up human anatomy references for a better idea. Also, samurai armors are not that thick and are not shaped like a vest as you have done it.

Ok, I'll scale the head better and see about tweaking the chest armor (The reference image I have looks more or less like I could texture the scale/plate pattern and normal map it to achieve the effect with less hit to the poly count, though) The mask was going to be done that way as well. But, I'll see what I can come up with when I get everything proportioned right first. Thanks guys!

Ok, I tried doing some scaling and tweaking tonight, so the first and second image at the top have been updated, the third will remain for a comparison. Tell me how it looks, and please bear in mind that there will be normal mapping involved (if I can do that right). Thanks!
