I have dowloaded the demo of V8. It is very cool and Im very close to purchasing. Only thing is in the demo version there was a scene with the Mime in the tutorial section. I was wondering if there are or will be written documentation in the shipped version of v8 that walks you through how that character was set up.I really liked the way it animated. Im kinda new to set up so I need help. I cant really reverse engineer the scenes so a walk through would help me learn faster rigging in v8.

Thanks for any info you can share.

The MOCCA character animation tutorial manual is included with the module and features the full setup of the mime character from start to finish.

Well looks like I will be a C4D user very soon! Thanks for all the help.

I have to say maxon did an awesome job on that tutorial, it is one the the most indepth tutorials I have seen for this complex subject. Its big and somewhat intimidating, but very very thorough.

Can't wait to delve into it.

How come when I downloaded the demo, I got all the mime tutorial scene files but no docs?

Also in the final anim file of the mime I get less than 1 frame per sec in editor with nurbs off, is there anyway I could animate a character like this?

thanks

ps that dino tail tute really shows the beauty of softik

I'm not sure which docs are included. There are seperate tutorial manuals for each module and I doubt that the MOCCA tutorial is included yet (in English)

What computer are you using? I get 18fps on a 1.5gig AMD with Geforce 4

500 G4, 512ram, 16mb rage 128 pro... (slow I know, holding out for a cheap dual 1gig at least and waiting to see whats next... I still prefer mac os x and apple!)

But shouldn't that be 1/3 the speed? thus 6fps? which is just workable :)

how do powerpc compare to amd/pentium for cinema?

Well, the processor is probably about 1/3 the speed, but for the editor display much depends on the graphics card, and your Rage 128 (!) ain't gonna cut it. It's maybe 1/15 the speed of the GF4.

i agree... you really need to upgrade that graphics card to get the most out of the editor. i'm using an nvidia gforce 4 ti and it's so very much nicer than the rage 128.

edit

having said that soft ik relies on your processor power rather than on the graphics card (i.e. you can spin around it nice and fast, but playback might still be just as slow). pc's are just a lot faster than macs currently. that's just the way things are i'm afraid (the reason is that stuff is optimised for pc, not for mac, apart from photoshop, which is why apple always use photoshop as their test to show how the g4 is faster than the equivalent mhz rated intel or amd, even saying that a top of the line pc is a lot faster than a top of the line mac, even if things were optimized for the processors).

1) Thats the problem solved then ;-)

2) Lets say that R8 is using 400MHz for the general animation and calculations, that leaves 100MHz spare for the soft IK calculations. Now in my case it is taking 400MHz for the general program, but it leaves me with 1100 MHz spare for the Soft IK calculations. This will give me at least 10 times the playback speed, plus the newer graphics card will make up the rest of the difference.

I'm not saying these are exact figures, just showing you roughly why a processor 3 times as fast gives much more than 3 times the frame rate.

3) You will find that All recent processors stack up fairly evenly MHz for MHz
