View Full Version : Rendering Error in Osx tiger
JOHNC3D 08-16-2005, 10:58 PM We just installed 6.5 Complete and the licenses on a g5 running tiger. Maya works fine except that when I try to render a frame out, this is what I get in the script editor:
// Warning: Image file cannot be output. Please check your file permissions and ensure
that the current project has an images directory. //
// Error: An error has occurred. Rendering aborted. //
I logged in as a superuser to have more access. It worked at first, but then when the program was reopened, I am getting the message again and no render. :banghead:
Can someone please help?

are you rendering from command line? if yes, specify an output path like the desktop
it may not hurt to run disk utility and repair preferences. it seems where ever the save path is you don't have permissions to write to or create an images directory.

I'm rendering by pushing the render button. I also tried to batch render.
Allready tried that, still no luck.

if you look in your user directory, in the documents folder, there should be a maya folder
inside of that is a projects and a default folder - that is where it should try to dump renders by default.
"get info" on the maya folder (in the documents folder) and look under the ownership and permissions dropdown.
make sure "you" the maya user can read and write to this folder and it wouldn't hurt to do the "apply to enclosed items" button to make sure the same privledges are there
you can also do that using chmod in command line if you are so inclined.
that seems to be where it is having trouble "writing" your renders.
if you specify an output path in the command line using the -rd option (sw render) you should be able to try to render to the desktop or somewhere you are sure you have full privledges to...

Cool. I can finally render. I just set my project to the default folder.
How can I get it so it saves to different projects folders?
Do I have to be logged in as a superuser or is it beter for me to log in regularly if I'm going to be using it most of the time regularly logged in?
Thanks.

don't log in as super user - just the normal user account should be fine. (i'm not sure if you are saying "root" or administrator, or limited user account though)
if your account is the administrator account (or one of them) that is fine as long as you know to not start trashing things ; )
you can use the save as or command line to save into other folders or set a different project folder to use (i think somehow you were in a folder where you did not have privledges to make changes - so as long as your new project folder is in a read/write place it should be fine)
