View Full Version : Either a bug or I'm missing something?
mdunakin 08-16-2005, 06:23 PM I have found something that's either a bug, or I'm missing something somewhere that let's
me do what I want to do, without Vue totally blowing me off? And I mean, Vue the software.
I found this out quite a while back, but hadn't had a chance to get back to it till last night.
As I haven't had the chance to get to do another animation test since then.
But, try this and let me know if it happens to any of you out there or not?
Make an animation.
Now you don't need to make anything long or complex or anything.
Just move the camera 5 frames or something, doesn't matter.
Save that as your animation scene.
The point being, that it's not the animation that's the issue.
Anyway, here's the buggy part.
You'll NEED to be saving as a Sequence, so select a format that is something like *.png.
When you go to the Render Animation panel and set your Browse to whatever folder
you want to Save your rendered images to, you won't get your images rendered out.
Now, and this is the KEY point here, you NEED to set that folder to be somewhere buried
or nested I guess it would be called, down in some OTHER folder, and NOT the Default
that Vue will FIRST send you to, as this is the Bug.
What ends up happening is, the FIRST image will render out, and NOT to the folder you
selected to and then you'll be sitting there thinking the rest of your animation is rendering,
as it keeps rendering away, only NO FRAMES ARE BEING SAVED!
And NONE of them, not even the first one, is being saved out to the folder YOU selected,
but instead just that first image is saved to Vue's idea of where to save it out to.
Please, please, try this out so I can varify it before I go sending in this bug.
Thank you for your time :)

Hi,
I am as I write rendering a 15 second animation as separate .tga files to a file on another drive without any problem. If this is the scenario you are having difficulties with I will enter into it in greater detail.
Blessings,

Hmmm... see.
This is what I am wondering about, because maybe there is some setting someplace
else that lets you change where you want to send things to, though this doesn't make
sense, since it gives you the option to choose the folder you want before rendering.
Doesn't make sense!?
Oh well, I'm learning to deal with weirdness and that I think Vue just doesn't like Mark, or something LOL

All I've ever had to do is create a folder called "frames" or whatever. All the rendered frames end up in there. After you assemble the animation, delete the frames,(if you like). I've got one like that for Lightwave frames too. No problem.

Yeah, I know.
That's the point here, is that, that's what I always do also.
The point is, it's NOT LETTING ME to do that and it's screwy.
So, I have no clue then why it won't let me render to whatever folder I want to?
That was what this question here was about, because I keep trying and trying to
render to my Frames folder, or any other folder, and it just never lets me do that.
Oh well, thanx guys for confirming that it works fine for you.
Too bad it still sucks on my end.
Oh well, at least now I know it's just mine.
Thanx all..................md :)
P.S. Vue totally just hates me.
One weird ass thing after another.

I haven't been very active lately because a nasty computer virus got to it. The bug could be on your computer.

Mark,
Now, I'm not trying to start anything here. You've said on several occasions you haven't really read the manual. Dude, you gotta try and do it. I know the temtation to just get to work, but you need to take a few days off, and just read it. Not trying to sound harsh, just trying to give some friendly advice.

Its ok Mark your not mad
it wouldn`t let me save into any folders deeper than the default
- My Pictures\e-on software\Vue 5 Infinite
if I made a folder in `Vue 5 Infinite` like `animtest` and tried to save to`animtest` then it would put the files in `Vue 5 Infinite`
but if you go elsewhere then you can save where you want

Mark, Stick with the version you have. A new one will be on the way soon, but I'm happy they are really giving a good testing before releasing it. But I will hold back as usual to see if there are potential problems to be revealed by the more anxious users.
LightFreeze is correct. Save outside the e-on folder and you'll be OK. You can even stay in My Pictures if you like, but make a separate folder that's not inside the e-on folder. Don't know where it says to do that, I just know it works. And I've been checking the manual as well.
I don't think Ed meant anything bad, just trying to be helpful based on previous comments. I thought you were a newbie for a short time until I saw some of your work. Then I just chalked it up to lots of enthusiasm on your part. Hang in there! You're keeping things lively.

Thanx Kevin, and I meant no harm towards Ed either, just didn't like the tone that
I'm just jumping in with Vue instead of taking the time to read the manual.
I've always disliked those types of generic RTM comments.
Well, at least when they don't have any bearing on the issue at hand.
You select a folder to save to.
What's the big issue about that?
Should work.
Reading a manual isn't going to fix that.
I don't know any other way to put it, but the way I did,
which was to say what the facts were for me.
Selecting a folder to save to, isn't some complicated deal.
Anyway, sorry that I bothered with this, I guess?
On a better note, if there is one, (LOL) I've competely cleaned out the old version
and reinstalled the new one and will try tearing it up tonight and see what happens?
And I also reinstalled my printer drivers as well.
If I'm going to run Vue, it will NEED to work with my other things I have on my system.
For one thing, when I go to make tutorials for Vue, I'll obviously be needing to have
the Capture program running in the background at the same time as well.
And also, I'll be running LW with it too, since that will be my next tutorial.
Anyway, my appologies to Ed :)
Sorry, I'm just too touchy when it comes to that RTM rheteric.
Especially, when that's not the problem.
..................md :)
And yeah, I'll wait on the next update as well.
And also, I am pretty happy with the way e-on is working hard to fix these problems.

Mark,
Your remarks were deleted, I didn't see them. Dude, I'm just like you. Get frustrated when stuff doesn't work like it should or act as common sense should dictate. I've seen your results. For obtaining the software just when just it came out your stuff is great.I guess I should have added, that my "frames" folder is on my "D" drive, the same as VUE.
I've been to your site, so I know that you know your way around software. I really dislike the RTM comments too. Never thought I'd make one. Once again, meant no harm.
By the way,I appreciated your render-speedup thread.
So..........are we cool, or what?

Yeah, no problem Ed, we're good :)
The comments, I deleted myself, because I said them in not such a hot mood after spending
a zillion hours on this stuff, just to be told to RTM and I punched back. But the punch
was meant for your comments and NOT directed towards you in a mean spirited way,
but that's how they ended up coming off, as even "I" could see that after I had posted it.
And don't worry, they weren' that bad anyway, just a bit on the harsh side, but I'm not
like that (too much LOL) and felt I needed to calm this down by deleting that whole schpeal.
Pretty much, the worst I said was "how the flip would reading the manual help, when it's
just not saving to a nested folder?", but even that comes off more like I'm mad at you,
then me just being frustrated with the whole situation.
So, my appologies :)
I know you were trying to help.
I will send this info to the tech support people for them to know about it.
I went back to the old version and ram it most of the night with only 2! crashes,
instead of constnat crashes, which was a heck of a lot better then before :)
And I did a LOTTT of internet stuff the whole time and had PS running and my
image viewer running and a couple of other things all running AND I even
installed my drivers for my printer again with no problems with that.
I now know that the crashes and memory problems appear
to have something to do with OpenGL issues.
