Hi all.
I'm working on a complex proc material for a type of rock. Anyway i found a web site with a number of free procedural materals - which is similar to type of rock I need - see under http://www.darksim.com/html/support.html (grey rock)
They have got a nice tutorial on how to create a photo-realistc proc material here http://www.darksim.com/tutorial/html/tdt2_stone.html. I have tried to simulate this using vue's function editor but not getting very close.
There seem to be a few functions that I cant seem to reproduce in Vue. The first is the use of multiple colour maps within a single material. Granted I can mix another material using a fractal, however a bit ticky then applying scratches/pitts to the completed texture (refered to as what-nots in the tutorial). The second is using a fractal as a mask and darkening an area of the colour map (if you look at the tut - you will see what I mean). The input filter "contrast" comes close but seems to adjust the contrast of the whole material not just a "masked" area. The other inputs such as "Fade out" etc. do this on based on a colour which is not the same as darkening a particular area.
Was hoping a Vue material guru - would be able to try simulate the tutorial above in Vue & see if they've got any tricks to work around the above & how close they can come to the original photo texture.
thanks for any feedback.
