This is probably a stupid question, but is there a way to use dmaps and raytraced shadows together? I know, I know, you're probably asking yourselves... WHY? I've got a scene that right now renders out at about 6min. a frame using dmaps (lots of area light fills). I wanted to put some trees and shrubbery (ni!) into the scene using some alpha mapped planes with pics of trees etc. on them. Problem is, of course, no good shadows using dmaps (edge of plane rather than leaves, etc.). I want to keep my render times down down down, because I have to render a 4-6 second animation, and so if I can help it I don't want to use raytracing. I have a few paintFX trees in the scene, but since the camera'll never get close to them, the alpha mapped planes look more realistic. I've looked at Gnomon's tutorial for faking 3d shadows without raytracing, but since I'm only using planes, it doesn't seem to apply. Aside from my initial, dumb question, is there a workaround?! Any ideas would be great, thanks!
