View Full Version : Warrior WIP
diffa 08-15-2005, 11:31 PM Hi! Here's my newest model. A some sort of warrior. Modelling time so far four hours and triangle count is 2720. I'm hoping that the model and the props will stay under 5000 triangles.
C&C are allways welcome!

I agree. If you want to keep a smaller style head maybe make it a tad bigger and bring the head down some, since guys that beefy tend look like they have no neck do to the massive muscles. Here is a good ref what I mean.

EDIT: I messed up the ref so I put it on my own site relinked it...

Oh that's his thumb. I was wondering why you'd model that part of his anatomy, and only in one view.
It's a good model, but the body looks like it's grossly under-detailed in comparison to the head. I'd suggest either making the head more boxy, or the body less.

Little update. I modified the body and the head and added a hammer. Body is 2724 tris and the hammer is 316 tris. Total 3040 tris. Modelling time so far five hours.

You made Sprite come out of my nose!

The model looks pretty good so far ;) Hope you are going to texture it soon! It can be hard to tell how a model that is low poly will turn out until textures are applied. ;)

Man, I think I need to start getting more sleep--I misunderstood what another thing was. I thought that his shield was a steering wheel for a boat (and I know I'm gonna be corrected for using the word "steering wheel"), and basically sat there picturing an awe-inspiring scene of your character with a pirate hat and parrot on his shoulder driving a pirate ship, the mast above blowing, along with the skull and cross-bone flag obstructing the view of a full moon shining down upon the water, waves crashing against the front of the boat, with this guy standing there at the wheel, swinging his hammer crazily with one hand, and steering with the other.
But hey, this is another route to take. And it's turning out quite well, I must say. Though, to critique a bit: I'm confused as to why his head's paler than his body, and think it'd be really cool to have a tatoo that's drawn on there to look 3d, on his front and back, so it's something like the front of a dragon on the front, and the back of it on his back--just a thought. I like the Fable-ish (Xbox game) look about him. It works well.

The only crit that really stands out to me is the characters chest and stomach, it seems wrong, I think it would help if you raise his pecks so his chest isn’t as flat, and also pull his ab section out a bit...as it looks abnormally 'sucked' in...

update... I thought that the warrior was missing something and that something was a horse. So I modelled a horse. The horse is 952 tris and the total scene poly count is now 4500.

i think the horse could use a few mor polys compared to the soldier. especially in the neck for animation

Although the Horse looks very good , i think you could improve the mesh to flow a bit better, for example horses are geneally streamlined animals so try and imagine your edges to be so too, by making a continious set of lines from head to back of the legs. This shouldnt be to hard for you to do as the mesh looks finished, also i agree with toebee_1, add another loop around the neck and make the guys feet smaller, they wont fit ito the saddles sternum if thats even what you call it. , thanks cya.

this is looking real nice, im not so sure about the horse tho, dont you think he would need some more topology around his joints to allow for clean defomation.
also his cape looks a bit to straight around his neck on the collar, i'd personally round it off a wee bit. I really like the Alpha on the cape btw. :) i'd get rid of the floaty bits on the edges tho they take from the effect

His boots look a bit too modern for the rest of his clothing. Maybe that's just me though.
