imamesh 08-15-2005, 08:52 AM gyro or what ever you call it has to be the oddest thing in the hole program
ived used plenty of other gyro in other apps but that thing there is way to hard to navigate and move and rotate your object parts.

Could the problem be the coordinate system you are using? Take a look at the bottom right of the world view to see which one you're using. There's info in the docs about what they are.

to many keys to select to do some things
its ugly and its in the way.
look at Zoom
it makes you stroke away from it
there isnt alot of room to stroke before your off the screen
and that makes it feal ockward

The biggest speedbump for me is constantly having to select a transform and then "m" to get free movement (perhaps there's a way around that and I just don't know about it). It would be nice if "m" could be sticky. Or perhaps clicking on one of the transform circles provides constrained movement while clicking in the empty space within the edit sphere provides free movement.

I thought there must be a way to write a script that toggles the 'Hide/Unhide on EditSphere/Slider' function in the Motion Block.
That way, I could press a button that hides all Motion Channels on the edit sphere except for the three channels I want to see (Translation,Rotation or Scale Channels) at least. Less confusion.
Couldnīt find a way that offers access to the hide function.
Is this possible with the SDK ?
@Leebert
I second your suggestion :)
There are a couple of scripts by Max Glick that do this - check them out on zoogono: http://www.zoogono.com/plugindetail.cfm?pid=7

click the middle...
when you click a rotate handle, the middle circle says R on it.
if you move it will say M then you grab the middle and yank it.

Yes, that's what I'm saying is the speedbump. It would be cool if the edit sphere would just remember that I am in unconstrained mode rather than having to select the transform I want and then re-selecting the "m"/"r".
I guess a possible work-around would be to use the channel selection hotkeys. I'll have to see if I there's a way to map two actions (1. select channel 2. select "m"/"r") to a single keypress.

i dont know how that script works if you know then can you tell me,
im new and this F in gyro is about to make me not use this program
because it makes it to hard to navigate.
click press F1 press #2 right mouse middle click, drag left set front view press M
shift drag right
thats what it seams like just to move the damn thing.
whats the method to free wheel it in a matter of speaking so i can rotate it in all dirrections by just draging off of it in the viewer,
and how do you get rid of that F in gyro out of my way?
i dont know who design that gyro but thats is the worst gyro ive ever seen and used
just plain ockward

In it's current state, there are more people who hate it than who love it. It has taken ages to even get it as usable as it is now, in earlier days it didn't even show the coordinate orientation correctly.
It shouldn't be too hard to make into one of the coolest translators in 3D - until then, it just sucks.
Cheers,

ok well there is a workaround for this.
create an armature to move the object, set the channels you want to control with the armature and then immediatelly to the right, there is a box taht has a R/M circle (depending on what channels you selected) if you click that box this will unlock the free transform mode and it will always work without clicking twice.
Now, you might say, well damn stooch, thats alot of work. and i will say well damn dude, there is no reason not to use armatures, everything that needs alot of fondling, should have an armature anyway... And by the way, free transform also gets quite unpredictably annoying when you pan around the object, so trust me, locked channels are better most of the time anyway.

i suggest you look into the armatures tutorial, there is allready one you can use, its actually quite easy. however once i get some free time i just might make some tuts.

please do
this gyro and hot keys has my fingers in a knot.
i found a new way to move a object
press F3 then hold your middle mouse button down and at the same time press the SHIFT key and drag in the X axis and double LEFT mouse click then let go of the middle mouse and SHIFT key at the same time and with your LEFT hand, hold down the space bar
then with your right hand, hold the LEFT and RIGHT buttons down
then press the middle mouse button with your NOSE and SKROLL
moves a object fairly easy

inamesh, I'm still completely confused by what's confusing you and what you're trying to do. Can you please tell me what the problem is in complete sentences and with spell check? I don't mean that to sound snotty, I just honestly have trouble understanding some of your posts and I do want to help.
And I have a question: What coordinate system are you using?

Yes, that's what I'm saying is the speedbump. It would be cool if the edit sphere would just remember that I am in unconstrained mode rather than having to select the transform I want and then re-selecting the "m"/"r".
I think we could remove the common "switching", for example from XY to XZ movement, by A) Making the entire visible axis lines on the edit sphere clickable, and B) Choosing what two axis to move on by distance to the axis dots (where the letter is) on the edit sphere, with a bias limited to my current mode (move, rotate, or scale).
...kind of like Animate Immediate for the edit sphere. It's not perfect, but I think it would make things easier. Clicking outside the sphere of edity goodness would behave as it does now.
Yes? No?

I still vote for the XSI way: clicking on an axis line/dot moves in X, Y or Z only.
Clicking the area between two lines moves in that respective XY, YZ or XZ plane.
Clicking in the center where the axes meet moves in all three axes (freemove).
In XSI, a changing cursor shows what will happen if you click and drag. If you are with your mouse on top of an axis line/dot, you have a mouse pointer with an X, Y or Z attached. For the other areas, you get an "XY" etc. or "XYZ" next to the cursor.
You never even have to think about what will happen.
It just works.
You don't need any preselection other than move/rotate/scale which could be handled with shortcuts (user definable), the three mousebuttons or three little t, r and s dots next to the sphere that you can click to change the mode.
Outside of the editsphere you have selection mode active.

look at this very simple
Basicly like the guy above said move/rotate/scale
and allso free wheel it by not having the gryo show.
LOOK
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/4792/gyro5lm.gif
very SIMPLE and not a pain in the @**
having them letters out in front on the gyro wrecks it
looks ugly and distracting.
far as i seen so far on the program it looks good
but that gyro just kills every thing, making every thing hard to manuver.
worst design gyro ive ever seen and used

Dude, constantly telling people how much you think their work sucks does not make them want to listen to you.
Yes the edit sphere could be better. But you don't have to be Comic Book Guy about it.

you got to admit its some pretty sloppy work
no matter how you word it.
i did say, it was a nice program from what ive seen so far
but the gyro wrecks the hole thing.
btw i never told anyone their work sucks.
the differents between me and you
is i am me, and you are you.
im not to harsh on them but im a little more honest then you are.
the only thing so far i hate using is the gyro
and what is one of the most important part of the program?
its the gyro, if you dont have it then your screwed
how much more honest can i be?
if you don't like my Comic Book
then maybe you don't have no sence of humor
OR maybe no sence at all.
Yes the edit sphere could be better.
is this your true fealing about it?
or are you to scared to say what you really think out in public?
pfffffffffffffffff what a sissy boy
your just like some people,
wont say it out in public but you will talk behind there back.
your such a MAN but still wearing little Boys Pants.
next time you have a complaint about my post then use the PM = private message

sphere (gyro??? :P ) is a way to activate the channel by clicking/drag on the axis gide
that is all.
