Hello guys, i am working for a project assigment , and i have major problem animating a horse running(not just walking)

Normally if i would be doing a a human cycle, i would have an expression keeping the "hip" area between the left and the right bottom ik handle.

But what should i do with the horse?

Any help or video reference of horse running(and if possible not a blurred video) would be really appreciated

p.s I am using maya, but really i just need someone to explain me briefly the basics of quadraple walk cycle

I did a similar thing in art foundation.

Search for Muybridges photographs. He has a horse running and a horse jumping, frame by frame. I traced the outlines of the frames and animated them. It worked fine.

Here is a pic if the rough outlines I made.

Hello,
since I just worked on a mounted horse with 5 different movements (walk, trot, canter, gallop & extended gallop) here s a few resources I collected that hold more information on quadruped & riding mechanics than anyone could need..... it s a bit of an information overkill but you asked for it....

http://www.asaddlery.com/info/anatomy.htm
http://www.oricomtech.com/projects/legs.htm
http://bowlingsite.mcf.com/Movement/locoindex.html
http://bowlingsite.mcf.com/Movement/Footfall.html
http://www.equusite.com/articles/basics/basicsGaits.shtml

As far as reference is concerned Muybridge is a must....but I prefer looking at vids of horses to get a feel for their movement and how I have to rig & animate it..... if you want high quality videos, check www.altavista.com (http://www.altavista.com) s video search and a few horse breeder sites where they show there horses off..... that s where I found the best material...
enjoy,
c.
