This is my submission for Elemental 2. So far it's 40+ hours work. Over 1000 objects, some you can't even see because they're hidden behind posts. 3 million plus faces. 20+ lights. All textures created by me. 3 hours app render time with the default Max scanline renderer with exposure control turned on and advanced lighting. I haven't turned on radiosity yet since that'll add some more render time and I don't want to mess with it until I'm finished tweaking it. I didn't use mental ray because it didn't read my volume light correctly and didn't support some of the textures I created. I was going to post the image here, but with a 97k size limit I didn't feel it would present large enough or detailed enough to get a good critique.

It's the best and most complex work I've ever done. My computer is gasping for breat when I work on it, so I really can't take it much further, but I'd like to hear what people think before I finish tweaking it and render the large format Tiff. I'm particularly fond of the bird in the rafters, and the way my bounce lights worked.

I was trying to create a scene that would reflect genuine spirituality, a sense of sacredness. Hopefully I succeeded

i am sure you put in a lot of work into the scene; but it is still giving a CG look. Only if you can spend some more time on the aspect of lighting it naturally..

i hope you get a more realistic render.
do post it.

I think this is looking quite great. I really like the reverence that is shown through the angle and distance. I am going to give some crits though because I want to see this piece shine. I am by no means an art or 3d expert so bare that in mind.

I like the composition, but the leaves seem out of place and draw too much attention since they are in such sharp focus.

I also like the low camera angle as though the person is kneeling. But what strikes me as odd, and it is a stylistic choice and you may have a good reason, is the falloff of the light from strong around the camera, to dark in the hall, to bright (this is obvious that it should be bright) around the around the buddah. I think the camera should be in the dark as the person should be seeking the light of the temple, the buddah.

And some smaller crits.
The shadow of the lamp on the left side is too strong. It is on the dark side of the temple.

The rope and the pillars should shows signs of age. This should be an old temple. The pillars should also be bowed in a slight amount. The texture of the wood should also vary slightly from pillar to pillar.

The color of the sky in the two left skylights are too different.

I really like this piece. By the way the lighting for the are of the skylight is excellent. I will keep an eye on this. Keep up the good work. It will still be a while before I can tackle anything this big!
