View Full Version : stills: dorm room project phase 1
stephen2002 11-01-2002, 12:08 AM I have completed phase 1 of my dorm room project. The goal was to create 2 stills depicting inside and outside space.

I have used Blender to create the environment, and MojoWorld to create the moon that is reflected in the window.
For higher-res stills and more information about the project, please go here:

Please let me know what you think of the environment and what you feel when you look at the pictures.
I will be adding more "clutter" for phase 3 of the project. However the lack of clutter was intended for this phase.

ok, here I go again. I don't get it. Why no replys? Is it THAT borning? Too amaturish (I hope not, I have been working with CG for nearly 4 years now). Am I being exciled by most of the community? What should I be doing differently to create at least token interest?

One of the more important things to do to a scene, is to make it look realistically dirty. most environments need this dirt look to make it look more believable. Especially a dorm room would have spills on the carpet, smudges on the walls, random books and papers laying around, it just looks awkward that the only part that looks like its been touched by human hands is the bedsheet.
also for the inside shot, maybe leave the shades up on the window and have a little "looking outside" shot to it. you have it open on the outside shot.
i hope this helps!

I realise that there is a lack of clutter and dirt that is necessary to making it belivable. I will be adding that later.
For the effect of inside and outside space, I kinda wanted the shades down, effectivly making it only inside, as opposed to a little bit of both. Granted, it would be more intresting with the shades up a bit.

none of your wood surfaces appear flat... that all look convex... and the lighting is not realistic at all.

as for the wood surfaces, I will tweak that material. Thanks.
As for the lighting, what would need to be changed to make it look more real? I don't happen to have a radiosity solver in the program I am working with, so it is hard to make it perfect.
