Anyone get constant crashes when exporting to dotXSI? I have a scene that's just giving me all kinds of problems. eg. I don't know what the heck is going on with my shaders. I'll apply a simple phong shader to a object and draw a render region... but it still renders with the old shader. I can make the color a BRIGHT red... still the old shader. Also, I was testing some GI and the pants on my character have this REALLY weird reflective look... cant fix that either because I can't apply a shader. :annoyed: I've tried merging the scene into a new one.... nope. I tried stripping everything that's not nessesary out.... nope.

Oh, so anywho... I'm trying to get my model out and it crashes like no other every export (make that MID-export). BAH!!

Here's a pic of the scene...

hey man!!
this model is looking really great !!

I don't see what could be your problem, precisely...it might be a lot of things....!
I can propose you to send me "just" a little piece of that mesh, to see if I have the same crash and check what's goin' on !!!

I have never heard of the types of problems you are having. But here is what I would do: Try selecting all of your objects and creating a model out of them. Then export that model as an emdl file. Start a new xsi and import that emdl. Also, try freezing your objects. (If you have not already.)

Nice model BTW!

Stip: Check your email.

Thanks Ed

btw... I got it to export before I read your post. I have it set up into a right and left side, both have layers of there own... plus a couple temp layers. I finally got it to export by removing all the geometry I didn't need including the entire right half of his body. I don't know what that was all about. Still having the shader problem though.

Ed, I'll send you the file if it will help out soft in any way. The file is just a character I'm doing for fun.

I presume you would have more than one 3d application on your machine from your cool model, so try this...

Save as .Soft3D or .IGES or eqivelant.

Open it up in Max, Lightwave, Alias, Soft3d or even an older version of XSI. Resave/Export.

I had a similar problem with Reflection and Refraction in 3dsmax once. It didn't render in the default max renderer, Brazil or Maxman. It only worked when I ported to XSI and back again.

Thanks Gonzo. I got it to finally work properly though. Ed's emdl trick worked.

I'm just glad it didn't do it to me AFTER I had all my mapping finished.
