View Full Version : normal mapped WW2 pilot
clalan 08-11-2005, 01:44 PM I just started this personal project and I would like to get as much feedback as possible during the entire ride. the idea is to model and texture a realistic world war 2 pilot in flight gear and his spitfire. I'm creating the high poly reference for the normal map first. The head is done, and I'm now moving on to the leather cap.
so lots of critics and comments please!

That looks really good so far, his cheeks and temples look a tad smooth/round to me, but its a very small thing, it might not be necessary at all. Maybe some little extra detail around his chin would be nice too. Stellar job, can't wait to see the cap!

thanks for the encouraging comments, guys, really appreciate it.
I have tweaked the face a little bit, brought out his cheeck bones a little more, tweaked the eyes and lips. no plans for a mustach tho :)
I also got started on the cap, but it's too early to show anything. too bad because I wanted to show an update before I'm off for the weekend.
and check out this site for references, it has turnaround images of uniforms and accessoires: http://www.britishmilitaria.com/home.html

Looks good so far, although the normal maps probably wont shine too much on this face. It's nice and smooth and the normals help pop out texture-type details. Keep going though!

This is fantastic work. You're obviously a very talented modeller.
My only concern is that you might get some issues with the normal map because of the amount of overlapped geometry.
I can't wait to see how this turns out though. Keep up the good work. :)
