Great job! It's rare to actually see a character in an environment on a modeling reel these days. Very dynamic camera moves too, a pleasure to watch. Modeling and texturing get 2 thumbs up from me!

Nicely presented reel. There's really not much to say about it, very solid work and everything seems to look right. However, i think more careful attention is needed to the material values and shader work in such areas like the blood stains on the claw, as well as the skin and armor. I think your overall spec map needs work in all your main characters, and the color map could use more detail. Much of your zbrush work gets washed away by the diffuse texture of your creature for example. I find the aspects and tweaks needed for your reel very similar to one demo that just recently got front page as well.
Good luck with your job hunt.

Very nice reel and congrats on your grad. You should find a nice job, but imo there are a few texturing problems that stand out to me. It seems the edges of your metal pieces have a constant wear on them and looks a little too uniform.. perhaps have the paint still on some parts of the edge. Your male model at first glance looked low poly because it looked like you painted in the shadows surrounding each muscle.. this might be the style you're going for, but it would look more realistic if you focused purely on the shadows casted from light sources. Other than these, you have an amazing reel. You have a great eye for detail in your texturing.. awesome job.

I'll follow by congratulating you on graduation... I know how it goes, I've got about 5 more weeks till graduation and I have plenty of work to do in the meantime. :)
I agree with the guys that your texturing is loosing some of the details, one of the other things that I had noticed is that you are using black background like most people but when you have dark textures on your characters this causes the detail and character to dissapear into the background... this is very apparant in your beast model.
I really like the environment scene that you have set up, but I feel that your camera shots could be slowed down by about half to let the viewer see the detail that you are obtaining with your normal maps, right now when the camera flys by I'm only able to get a quick glimpse and when you show the character later in your reel you do not show those same modeled equipment, or the close ups that you have in the environment scene.
One of the things I do like about your work is that your character and equipment has a feel that it's been out in the real world for a time being and that it's been beaten up and used unlike most of the very clean models we see these days, but I'm going to have to agree that the way you are doing it seems to be very uniform... the scratches are great, but having the paint worn off on all the edges goes very far...
The care is very nice, but it does show up a bit dark on my monitors up here at work, and also starts to blend in with the background in some areas just like your beast model...
Ok, but other then those things I think you have a very awesome Demo Reel... deffinantly one of the best ones I've seen recently and I'm sure you'll be at that awesome job here soon, so Good Luck and once again congratulations.

Very nice modeling and texturing throughout the reel. Congrats on the front page as well.
My one criticism concerns the car shown at the end of the reel. Simply put, I don't think it's your strongest work, either in modeling or texture detail. It sort of feels like you tossed it on there at the last minute as a W.I.P.
It's not a bad model, by any means. I just don't feel it leaves the viewer with a very representative impression of your skills. My suggestion would be to move it to another spot on the reel or drop it. End on a strong note.

u did a great work ,man congratulations!!
I like the feeling u got for the scene , and my suggestion is that u could make the texture more colorful~~~~ most furnishments of the man is in a gray style
U HAVE A awesome Demo Reel HOPE U CAN HAVE A NICE JOB!

Skye Phelps: thanks for taking so much time in digging my reel and replying...ya i didnt know that black bg would create a problem...next time i'll prolly have a nice bg...thanks for linking my environment and i moved it fast cus i didnt wanted to make my reel too long as it was already topping 2 mins...but i agree i cud've made it slow...thanks a lot once again...
oxyg3n: thanks a lot...i like that TRON look to my open scene environment..no one noticed that?

I'm liking the style of your reel, reminds me of those Kontra and other japanese shoot them up games i used to play in the SuperNintendo. I really have no critiques with your characters except that they all seem very high resolution game models rather than a pure high-poly model that you are obviously going for. This makes it look kind of cheap, i suggest you try to replicate such works like Blizzard with the same style but much better quality. It's all in the texturing and the render that needs more work to take this to a higher level. But the modeling seems to be okay.
08-18-2005, 06:30 AM
this should a big big booster....
all the best for the times ahead.....go on...!!!

Nice work dude, you certainly have an eye for polish.
I havent looked at your reel, but based on your images, I would suggest providing wireframes of your work. Topology/deformability is uber-important, probably more important than Z-Brush skills. So, lets see em!!
The only other thing is I think your heroes arms are too short. How's he supposed to reach his gun?? :)
your reel is very good .
Actually the only thing that bothers me is the "thanks GOD" at the end. It wouldn't be very appreciated in EU, but maybe not in north america, or maybe its just me.
Anyway very good reel, i really like the two beasts. and the textures.
ulb: i dont really see how thanking god could bother anyone, i think thats probably the most important thankyou of them all ,dont you think so:)
all the best once again harsh, dont forget to drink one up for me at the bar,too bad i cant be in vancouver:)
08-18-2005, 07:32 PM
wow thats some beautiful work
now i know what to look foreward too :P
i'm in the school and going to take the course he went through and all i can say is hat i'm even MORE excited to do this :P
amazing work man and its awesome to see it in the window in front of the school knew i recogonized the work from somewhere :P
very nice! Love your scene transitions and that chinese song is wicked!...Let us know where you will be working soon.... Just a few minor things.. it could be just my monitor settings too, but on your guns and metals, i think maybe u need to turn down your specular a bit... it almost looks white... and it is uneasy when u see white in art... atleast that's why i think anyway..
other wise it was great
sorry...maybe the admin candelete this for me.. i posted it twice by accident. thx

Much of your zbrush work gets washed away by the diffuse texture of your creature for example.
Yeah, That's well commented, I totally agree with what has been said above.
Good work man, when seeing your reel, I can tell that the guy who did it is serious about his work and that is important, Keep it up!!! :)
08-20-2005, 09:04 PM
Top job mate
Can you tell me what is the name of the music track you used?
08-20-2005, 11:14 PM
First off, I think you have alot of talent, and will go very far. There are some things about your reel though. The intro is nice, different and refreshing. I think that the first fly through is a bit fast, it is hard to take any of it in. That is a shame becouse I found myself going back to take a look at it again becouse it is really nice. All your textures are right on the money. I don't understand why you have a pan of your human right after the clay model though. I think it is out of place. I really like the monster but it passes so fast, I would have liked to see some close ups. The car is nice, but you don't even do a full revolution, makes it look like you just put it in to take up time and space. Ok, theres my 2cents. But I said it once and I will say it again, you do awsome work, and I will see you out there one day.
08-21-2005, 01:20 PM
wow very nice when i saw it on the front page i had to check it out....and im glad i did :D
im just at awe lol
08-21-2005, 08:47 PM
agreenster: thanks a lot man...i will soon post the wires as this time i'm crazily busy...and yeah the arms were shorter in the clay renders of soldier..but were corrected for final renders.
ulb: thanks man and i would not like to start debate on this...as i feel for me thanking god was the main thing...so when i'm mentioning all the names...why to forget his??
jdsb: thanks a lot bro again...and soon we're gonna drink together...tum, main aur hamaraa bagpiper...:D
Angelbait: hehe thanks man...yeah its good to see you getting inspired from my work...feels like the whole year paid off ;)
gago: thanks a lot...
one: thanks man...sure i'll let you know where i'll be working...but lemme getta job for that first...:)
Psylife: i totally agree with Jinian and you that creature's diffuse map is washing away disp details...but i didnt had much time to put in hi...my fault...and thanks man for liking my work...
cgi_dude: thanks mate and the name of the track is from game Command & Conquer: Generals...
shoshi900: man i would totally agree with you on all of your comments here...good eye u got there...but as i already said i didnt had much time for the editing the reel so had to rush in the end...anyways hope you'll see better works from me...:)
thanks a ton guys for taking time and commenting on my work...very much appreciated...:)
