View Full Version : does anyone use 'pull'?...

Ive followed its description in the manual, and ive used it for props, but as a mechanism for dampening limbs by a 'pull' percentage (eg:without aux effectors), either ive found it next to useless or im doing something wrong.

any ideas, or examples where people use pull?

by the way, i have been using MB for some time now its not like im a new fish or anything, apart from using pull with aux markers for props ect, i just dont see the point. It just doesnt dampen the joints like it says should do in the manual. And since im on the subject 'stiffen' seems just as useless for dampening as well. i havent noticed this before because ive been working in bipeds, where the rig is pretty much perfect, ive only come up against this problem because ive been using mb for quads and i really need to alter how the joints react with one another.

Hey Biggyninja,

Are you in Expert Character mode? If you are in Basic, the pull/stiffness settings are ignored.

hiya curtis thanks for replying, it means a lot, unfortunatley our internet connection has been playing up over the last few days so i havent replied sooner.
Yes i have been using expert mode and stiffness and reach overide, but im still not sure if i understand fully how pull and stiffness work. ive been looking at pull over these last few days and im starting to get head around it, but im still at a loss to get the stiffness on the fk rig working. like i said, ive never run into this problem on the biped rig becasue its pretty much bang on, but im looking into quradreped rigs and i could really do with understanding it now. have you got any examples/tutorials on stiffness (and pull) i could look at, its a bit vague in the manual and id really like to get my head around it.

thanks.

Hi,

Pull i'll use mostly on feet and the root to keep them locked as well as possible. Sometimes i'll loosen the root a bit.

Interestingly, i use most when a biped is behaving like a quadraped i.e. crawling on a floor or leaning on something. I use it to shift the weight around as it were. For example if someone is on the ground and they have their left hand planted i'll have an animated pull on this, with the pull at 100% for the plant. As they put the right hand down, i'll animate the pull up on the right hand and drop it on the left. This seems to give the impression that the characters weight is on the hand that has the pull at 100%.

I haven't done any quadraped anims yet so this is as close as i've got.
