Onboard graphics cards don't give much power at all. They are basic, in terms they do 2D, and really minor 3D work. When we are talking minor, you better be workign with an extremely low poly model.
Your better off getting a $50 graphics card then using that onboard graphics card.

yea am talkin about the Maya hardware render. would a Radoen 9550128 do good for me??
If you're going to buy a new card, go with nvidea for maya. their opengl performance is much better than ati. as for the hardware renderer, i don't think you'll get good results without a pro card, or perhaps you softmod a geforce to a quadro.
