Hi,

I am developing a 1 minute long CG animated film. Basically a robot comedy. Right now, all I am looking for is an ART DIRECTOR.

First, a few things about me. I graduated from New York University's film school in 1988, and I started working in animation shortly after that. I started in traditional animation working as an assistant on commercials and several non disney features. I transitioned into CG while working at Duck Soup in Los Angeles, and I eventually directed animation on a dozen Pilsbury Dough Boy spots. There I conceived a short film called, “The Snowman”. I left before it was halfway completed, and went to work at Industrial Light & Magic.

While at I was at ILM, Duck Soup completed "The Snowman", directed by my friend Lane Nakamura. However, the executive producer changed the ending, and it went from LOL funny to mildly amusing. Still, it managed to get shown at the Siggraph electronic theatre, and made it into the long list for the Academy Award. This image of my alien was used the following year to promote Siggraph.

At ILM, I devised a new character to work with and I began a new short. Sadly, after 5 years there, I was let go from the company, and the project shelved. I still have the character, modeled and rigged by top ILM talent. I have created a new film, a 1 shot, 1 minute film that demonstrates the character’s comic potential. It is the first of a planned series.

I am hoping the above history will encourage some interest in this project, as I plan to keep a certain level of discretion with the images and information I post. Of course whoever works with me will have access to what is necessary for the job.

What I need at the moment is a ART DIRECTOR/CONCEPT ARTIST. mostly to help flesh out some color direction. I am looking for something a bit cartoony. I am looking to see quality work, recent art school graduate would be fine, or perhaps in the final year. It is not paying at this time. It would be pretty easy work. I have a good idea of what I want, but I am also open to ideas. Perhaps you have a website, or some art samples you could email to me.

I am not looking for animators, I’ve got that covered. I’m actually trying to learn most of the other jobs anyways. If this works out perhaps I'll try finding more assistance.

Thanks for your attention.

Thanks Ali, nice to hear from you. I hope things are going well.

I have stopped teaching at the Academy, mostly to put my free time into this project.

It's funny, as soon as I post looking for an art director, I have a mental breakthrough, and a much better idea for how to proceed. If I don't get anyone here, I may be fine doing it myself.
