Hello all,
I am trying to created a texture for a polygon head I created and would like to use a bitmap template to paint on, does anyone have an easy way of setting up UV maps in C4D.

I realize a question similar if not exactly this one must have been posted here in the past, but I have not been able to located the thread.

I have used uv2bmp and another plugin of the like( I forget the name of that one), but the bitmaps that are created with these programs is always kind of splattered across the texture area. No matter how small I make these maps, 256x256 or smaller, it seems like the plugin in question goes out of the way to spread the map over the entire area.

Thanks,

make a poly selection, and save it, then limit your texture to that selection, and map it in whatever way you want (spherical etc) then with the texture selected in the object manager make a new UVmap, and that should do the trick (hopefully)

Hey mdme_sadie,
thanks for the quick reply.
I gave your technique a quick try and I could not get a bitmap of the selection alone. Here is what I got. My selection had only five polys in it and both bodypaint and uv2bmp mapped the entire thing. I will continue to try your method; it seems like it should work.

I've attached a jpeg of the bitmap.
All of them end up looking like this.

Thanks,

if you've got bodypaint, then select the polys you want, clear the curent uv map in bodypaint, then use optimal mapping to map just the polys you want.

Thanks mdme_sadie,
the bmp looked much better. It will still take a bit of uv tweaking, but it much more efficent a mapping method.
