View Full Version : Looking for something better than WinRAR?
theboykidney 08-10-2005, 12:04 PM Im finding more and more that Winrar is pretty unreliable when it comes to archiving stuff. I often get errors when unpacking a rar'd file.
Im wondering if anyone else finds this, and is there a rock solid compression format out there that can be relied upon?
Cheers, TBK

I've never had an issue with Rar, but WinACE would be another program to try. I like using WinACE alot more then WinRar, but each program has its uses.

I have used Winrar exclusively for the past 2 years, and have never had any decompression problems what so ever. And i would have put 100's of gigs thru it.
A simple trick is to add a recovery record to each archive when you make it so if for some reason it does get screwed up you can easily repair the archive back to its original state.

I believe best compression currently is BZip2, which is supported by a bunch of different apps. (google it :) )
